Hi everyone,

I have posted on here before with a different set of names, and since then DH and I have decided that we didn't love the previous lot! Here we go, round 2!

Looking for some honest feedback, good, bad and the ugly (I won't be offended)!

The current list of names we have are as follows (in order of preference):

Marley wub.gif
Erin
Madelyn
Matilda
Penny

This is it so far. I feel like I could write a book on names the amount of times I have read and re-read the one I have! I am not too keen on any of the top 10 names at the moment (DS has a top ten name, which I love, but am looking for something a little different without being waaayy out there tongue.gif )

Thanks in advance biggrin.gif

Marley - I really dislike this, sorry. Too surnamey/nicknamey, and I would have thought it was a boy. Maybe you could go with Amalia and nickname her Mali?
Erin - pretty but not something I'd pick personally.
Madelyn - nice with the traditional spelling of Madeleine. The Y looks icky.
Matilda - lovely, though getting popular.
Penny - great nickname for Penelope but not a stand-alone name.

My pick would be Penelope or Matilda.

My friend has a DD Mahli, I much prefer this spelling.

Not really keen on the others.

Hi,

Marley - don't like this spelling, perhaps Mahlee? I'm not a big fan of this name, although a friend has a Marlee (and she is very cute).
Erin - nice name, pretty
Madelyn - I like Madeleine, it was one of my preferred names but DH vetoed it. I don't like it with the Y.
Matilda - I like Matilda, cute. I also like Milly.
Penny - I like Penny as a nickname for Penelope.

Good luck! I chose a Top 5 name for my DD1, and we can get any of those "named" things at the shops (not part of my considerations, but DD loves the fact). For DD2 I chose Josephine, which is NEVER on any of those named things and we haven't met any other Josephines yet. So long as you like the name, and it isn't too "weird" for the child to live with, you'll choose the right one. wink.gif With DD2 it took me about an hour after her birth to choose a name from our list of about 5 options because we hadn't decided yet. I ended up choosing first and middle names from 2 different options. tongue.gif

Marley - Isnt there a book called "Marley and Me" (about a dog)??? What about Amalie, with the nn Marli?

Erin - I have seen this tossed around a lot lately. But very pretty.

Madelyn - So so

Matilda - LOVE this name.. nn Tilly is too cute.

Penny - Never liked this name (maybe a lady I knew.. LOL).
tondall
Marley - this spelling also reminds me of a boys name. I like Mali (thai-jasmine flower)
Erin - cute, but it is staring to get popular now
Madelyn - I like this, very cute with NN Maddy
Matilda - Nice
Penny - NMS, not very keen on Penelope with NN Penny either

My picks would be Madelyn Or Matilda.
Have you thought of any middle names yet?
KaLeXa
Out of those i prefer Marley but spelt Mali (friend of ours has a daughter called Mali Cooper huh.gif )
And Matlida wub.gif

I like Matilda the best!

Thanks everyone for your frank and honest answers. I like the idea of the spelling Mahli/Mali. It is good to take these suggestions to DH for more discussion. I always learn so much from these forums, things I would never have thought of!

A couple of names we cannot use for the simple fact that family and friends have already used are:

Lucy, Amelia and Grace (these are ok, they weren't on my list anyway) tongue.gif

Look forward to reading more of your ideas and suggestions!

I really like Marli. Another alternative could be Amali/Amarli.
fifi-trixibelle
Marley- I don't mind this for a boy
Erin- ok
Madelyn- love, but only spelt Madeleine
Matilda- nice
Penny- dislike

Madelyn wub.gif

Erin wub.gif

Marley - I know of 2 dogs called this, one M one F, never heard of it for a person. I like clumpy's idea of Amalia nn Mali (except it's a country...does that matter?)
Erin - pretty
Madelyn - nice spelt Madeleine, the y is too bogany and she'll have to spell it every time she says it
Matilda - don't like this
Penny - cute
*magenta*
Marley - Strongly dislike this name. I can't help but think of Bob Marley
Erin - I think this is a harsh sounding name
Madelyn - Too popular - and really don't like the y
Matilda - Gorgeous name, with Tilly or Matty as a nn wub.gif
Penny - A sweet nn for Penelope

My baby name book is falling apart from use! LOL I borrowed some great newly published ones from the library.

Marley - nice but I wouldn't use it
Erin - This is my fave from your list
Madelyn - very popular
Matilda - very nice, but also becomming oper-popular (in my opinion)
Penny - I think this is cute, but I dunno if it would work on an adult.

Marley wub.gif

My picks would be

Marley (My friends has a little girl and spells it Marli, the name really suits her)

Madelyn

Not fussed on the others. It's funny how once you know someone with a particular name it can totally change your opinion of it.

Goodluck

I have been thinking about these names non-stop for the last couple of days (I really need to get out more laughing2.gif )!

Anyway, I think Matilda will come off the list, just seems it is becoming way too popular for my liking.

DH and I are really getting into the name Marli/Marlee (haven't decided on the spelling) with a middle name of Mae, Marli Mae, which to me sounds very cute. I just like the idea of my child having a name that is a little different to the other children without being OTT smile1.gif .

The other name is Madelyn/Madeleine (spelling is an issue again). This is a distant second tho, but still on the list. Neither of us are in love with any of the other names on the list.

It is fun to read what you all think of the whole name thing, keeps me on my toes tongue.gif
samui
Out of your list I like Marli the best. It sounds very cute and as marlene is a girls name it is quite similar (but much nicer!)

Im not sure about the Mae middle name though?? Might be too much. Good luck!
FunkyChooken
Mahli Maeve
Mahli Matilda

Both sound sorta funky original.gif

What about Marlow?

I love Matilda too, with Tilly as a NN.
belinda1976
I love Marley. I have actually met a little girl called Marley and it suited her to a T.

I also love Madelyn.
Rubylicious
My favourite is definately Matilda. wub.gif
loulou1976

i think marley is cute..and different..
madelyn is nice, but prefer traditional spelling
erin - i think the others are nicer...what about Marley Erin
