Our 3.5 yo pretends to be a horse alot. We thought it was just a phase but it has been going on now for over 6 months. If it is not a horse then it is a dog. Was watching a movie the other night and there was a 8 yo character who thought she was a horse, PLEASE someone tell me it won't go on that long!!

There has been a beach in my lounge room for about four months now. DD is constantly inviting me to have a splash in it, pick up and marvel at the shells she finds, run screaming from the crabs under rocks and make sand castles, decorated with shells and of course, a flag on top.
Drives me nuts.
Puuuulease, can we go onto the next thing???
One day, you will look back and laugh. Mark my words.

Oh I hear you!
My 2 year old DD has been a fairy since late last year and I am constantly having to act out scenes with her from the Fairies DVDs. If I get pretend fairy cream put on my pretend sunburn one more time I'm going to scream!
ETA - Notice that she's even wearing her fairy dress in the photo in my sig!

My son, who is 9 now, used to embarras the whatsies out of us when he was 3 and insisted on crawling down the aisle of the supermarket being a lion.
His daycare teacher even called me into a meeting to deal with the "lion problem". Wheras he was not only being a lion the whole day, but making everyone else do it.
He has turned out alright.
My daughter 3 now, is Jesus tonight.

My DS pretends to be the male preschool teacher, so myself and anybody else around must take on the names of all of the other teachers. 24 hours per day for months and months, I've had to cater to the whims of a class full of imaginary children. The ring leader's name is Darling! I have to hold the school bus (our car)door open for them and wait for them to pile in each time we go somewhere, and of course to pile out again. Everyone must address DS as Andrew (Male teacher's name) or else all hell breaks loose. Heaven forbid we accidentally call him Andrei! It's very tiring, especially when any mischeif in this house automatically gets blamed on the invisible kinder kids. We have a small whiteboard and spend any spare moment giving lessons to the invisible kids.

That cracked me up!
SamnangMeh - Oh that sounds extremely exhausting! It wore me out just reading about it.

Thanks everyone, for your replies they were all funny.

Oh I can relate!!
My 3yo has been a dog for months now. He spends a lot of time barking, and down on hands and knees. He even pants & licks things

At swimming lessons he has been known to crouch on the side of the pool and lap up the water. Ewwwwww. Thank goodness for chlorine
He is indiscriminate in where we are or who we're with
So glad to hear he's not the only one.

I can sort of relate, except that our DD is often so many different characters in the space of 5 minutes, our heads spin trying to call her the right name! But she doesn't carry it too much further than referring to herself as the character... and some dressing up/ play.
And it has it's advantages... if Swiper is coming for her dinner, it's amazing how fast she'll sit down and eat it! If Lulu (the teddy from Bananas) just loves to wear her pink PJ's, then DD will put her pyjamas on for us quick smart!

Oh, aren't they gorgeous!!!
DS2 (3.5yrs) has been Astro Boy for weeks now. Complete with red undies and red socks, and nothing else - regardless of the weather!!
DS1 (5.5yrs) started prep this year, and since then has insisted on being called Mr Langes (the principal - or the boss as my son calls him) and will only wear shirts with pockets on them to store his pens.
God love em!!

Oh, you are soooooooo not alone with this. My 4 year old is always 'being' something, or often someone, usually someone we know. He now makes his baby sister be someone else as well - at the moment a baby puppy. He has frequently followed me around the supermarket on his hands and knees being a puppy, complete with high pitched barking. Very slow shopping days those ones, not to mention having to constantly warn people he is there! Even our car has to 'be' something else, sometimes a bus, sometimes a train or a plane. And heaven help me if I refer to it as the wrong thing! It has been going on for a year or so now, and I can't see it coming to an end in a hurry.
