Ladies
I am just about to submit an application for the APS and they have asked for an "Expression of Interest" rather than selection criteria. What exactly should this contain?
Thanks Karen

I have always done a selection criteria layout for an expression of interest together with a covering letter with a brief statement of my application. Our department gives applicants the selection questions.
In saying that every department is different

EOI are usually much less stressful than full applications. In the expression of interest did they list what qualities or capabilities they are looking for? What the job involves? Just address these or better still if there is a contact person give them a call and have a chat.. I always found this helpful. EOI's usually have a page limit too so you can ascertain how much detail you need to go into... usually a 2 page limit (depending upon the level you applying for)

So I do an EOI in addition to the covering letter? How does it vary in content to a covering letter? I always inlude a paragraph on what I am applying for and why in the covering letter, should I just expand this on the EOI instead? Just concerned that this then leaves a pretty brief covering letter.
They have listed selection criteria, but said I do not need to respond, but from what you have suggested this is a pretty good format then?
I have a 1 page limit.
thanks Karen

I usually email my EOI and mention something in the email about looking forward to discussing the position further face to face or something like that. I am not at work today otherwise I would give you the wording I use... if you only have 1 page, they are not expecting much detail, just clear and to the point, what experience you have and what you hope to achieve in the position.
I used what they list as a guide.
Good luck

Usually an EOI is simply that an expression of interest but what is required changes not only dept to dept but job to job. Best advice is to ring POC and ask what they require. One I rang said they wanted resume and answers to selection criteria!
I usually finish off with " I look forward to meeting you to discuss how I could contribute to the functions of the Department of XXX".
