Of the name Arlie for a boy?
Has anyone heard or know of boys named this?
Like it but not loving it. Think the spelling is making me not 100% sold on it

Suggestions welcome. Had considered Arley or Arli.
Thanks

I agree with PP, I don't not like it, but I wouldn't use it myself.

I'm sure someone just recently posted the same thing??
ANyway.. yes I like it I think. Is it a 'proper' name ? (no offence meant) as in did you make it up or read it somewhere?

LynnyP - i did look it up in the baby book as Ali but worry people will see it pronounced as "Ally" not "Arlie" hence the changing of the spelling.
I met a boy a few years ago with this name and i've just been thinking about it of late and its growing on me.

Not a bad name, but not necessarily sensible enough for a grown man if you know what I mean??
Also, he might spend his life correct and spelling his name!

I like the name, but I would go with original spelling, When I see Ali I first think Ah-Li, I know a few people with this name!

I've heard of Arlo before - a neighbour called her baby Arlo and I saw a heart surgeon on tv a while back with the same name. Have only seen Ali not Arlie.
Good luck!

I can't say I'm a fan... No matter which modified spelling you choose, there's no denying "Ali" is an extremely well-known name, strongly steeped in Muslim/Islamic culture.

I highly doubt it.. IMO most people know the correct pronunciation. TBH my first thoughts are "Muhammed Ali".

Hi, I like it. I have always liked the name Harley but always thought it reminded me too much of the motorbike, lol.
So I would suggest spelling it Arley.
Also would like to ask those that pointed out it was similar to Islamic/Muslim name Ali, so what?? Alot of names that are used come from different cultures.

I like it and would spell it Arlie rather than Ali just to be different... and if they do have to spell it out for people, it's not too bad... it's not that long to spell!

My first thought was that most people when they heard the name would think it was Harley.

There is nothing wrong with it being an Islamic name Jo-P. I was asking if she was talking about Ali which has a perfectly adequate existig spelling and a very rich cultural heritage or if she was talking about something else.

Would we not find it odd if Arabs started calling their kids Bahruz (Bruce)?!
I think in most Islamic cultures it's not actually pronounced with a long "A" as in "Arley" (that sounds quite an ocker pronunciation to me), but I could be wrong...

I like it!
If you wanted to move away from the suggested muslim/islamic connection etc of Ali perhaps you could lengthen the name to Arlinton or something like that but that might change your spelling? Just food for thought...

LynnyP It wasn't your comment at all that I was refering to. There were a couple after that took it too far I thought.
