Can anybody recommend a good butchers in Canberra - I ahve used Mikes Meats in Fyshwick, and like them, but they never have the same cuts in every week! Need to find a good one as my Parents are coming and they are very fussy about meat!

Jo,

dont know what side of town you are on but we use Bruce the butcher in Tuggeranong hyperdome near woolies and he is fantastic, im very picky with my meat and if he has stuff on display that i think has to much fat on it he will go out back and cut me fresh pieces, and the meat is devine

Jo, the butcher at Southlands at Mawson is excellent. We used to live in Torrens and shop there regularly. I go there now for meat for anythign special. (Also - I work for a meat related industry and they purchase meat there for work functions)

I make milk - whats your superpower?

I have two favourite butchers - Mawson for the service, and consistently high standard and Griffith Shops for service and top quality, organic and/or grain-fed meat.

I order bulk meat from the butcher in the Calwell shops.

He is very, very good and his meat is always fresh.

Infact, he orders in special meat for our family and makes sausages to a specific recipe as I have my kids on an additive free / preservative diet.

On a related topic I would NEVER NEVER NEVER again buy meat (especially beef) from Coles or Woolies again. They don't really have "instore butchers" any more. Intead most of their meat is butchered in centralised plants and cryovacced (vaccum packed). The cryovaccing can keep the meat "fresh" for up to 11 weeks without needing to be frozen. YUCK. Some butchers do this well eg High Country Meats
