I was waiting for a taxi back to Kingston after last night's EB dinner and some hoons in a hotted up car roared past so fast and so loudly they nearly gave me a heart attack! I thought they were going to mount the footpath and take me out! They nearly did take out another car. Luckily a police car was passing and took off after them. We have lots of them hooning up and down Wentworth Ave most weekend nights, doing burnouts etc. It's so dangerous for other drivers - I remember an elderly couple were killed by hoons street racing in Sydney last year. I'm glad we're moving out to the 'burbs soon. Off to sleep now - until the sound of burning rubber wakes me up ...

I so know what you are saying Suzanne! Our place is on the big roundabout (Wentworth, Canberra, Sturt) and it is unbeleivable how much traffic there is keeping everyone awake, let alone if you actually need to cross the road - no crossings or anything to help. I think when you combine the regular hoons, late night fyshwick goers (porn shoppers), harleys, people coming home from drinking at kingston/manuka and trucks it makes for one dangerous area.
Occassionally DD and I walk to the lake or Civic and try crossing the roundabout - sometimes we have been there for 20 minutes plus. Even when we were crossing to catch a train the other morning at 6am it took 15 minutes just to cross the roundabout!
And heaven help the poor cyclists riding through the rounadabout and along Wentworth now that you can't easily go on the back road because of the forshore development.

Its not just in the city area. Gungahlin burbs have many many hoons doing burnouts around / near the roundabouts

Dunlop has its fair share too. Many times I have reported the late night hoons on Kerrigan to the police and they have responded. Never know if they get them in the end. One night I was coming home late from work and came across one of the late night street races with one car coming directly at me!
Our house itself is situated on a small roundabout on an incline. The hoons like nothing better than to do burnouts at the front of our house making a lot of smoke. A few months ago one of them lost control and crashed into our neighbour's parked car in the middle of the night. I am always concerned about it because very occasionally they do the burnouts during the day and my kids play out the front (in a restricted area because of my concern).

Ours is near a smallish roundabout and we're constantly amused by the loons who think it's a cool place to do their donuts (?), howlies and wiping out the street signs on Friday and Saturday nights. I'm surprised they even want to risk damaging their precious babies (cars).

We get the odd car chase around here
Narrabundah/Griffith area, actually more than we ever had living in Reid.

We have a couple of hoons in our street. I cannot believe how fast they drive and always on the wrong side of the road

I would complain to the police but it will make no difference. They have lost control a couple of times out the front of our house and I just hope one day that they end up hitting the massive rocks we have in our front yard as they will do damage to their car
