Where would be the best (flat) place (south) to take Matthew and Erin tomorrow for them to learn to ride their new pushbikes? I thought maybe around Tuggeranong Lake, but DH is paranoid they will pedal into the water (a friend's DD did this recently). Any ideas?

Jo if you go to the bit of Lake Tuggeranong by Greenway especially the bit furthest west (ie last houses before the skate park) the path is flat with huge expanses of grass on either side - not too much danger of ending up in the water. In general, the eastern side of Lake Tuggers isn't too bad either.

I'm trying to think of somewhere with a large area of asphalt - given all the schools will be busy - but drawing a blank. That would definitely be my pick on the weekend though - your local school playground. That is where I learned to roller blade!

Have fun - I'm really looking forward to doing this with DD!

Hmmm I learn't in a car park. No idea where there would be an empty car park though......... *tick tick tick* brain thinking um why not take them to the cotter? Surely the car park there would be pretty quiet tommorow and you could take a picnic etc and let them have a play and make a big deal ot of it original.gif

Oh also I sometimes cruise down to Calwell and always end up using the church carpark there to turn around in. Why not try a church carpark. There is one at the back of the church near us, you know the one kinda on the corner across from the street that leads into ours. Not sure if the school uses it though but I am pretty sure that they have there own. Oh and there are the basketball courts. Um I am pretty sure they don't belong to a school. They are at the back and too the side of Erindale collage. Might be busy at lunch but quiet the rest of the time.

Thanks Steph and Alex! I will run those ideas past DH when I get home. It is pretty exciting - Erin's bike was assembled before I left for work so yesterday afternoon we had her out in the street - she will pick it up fairly quickly (she is a daredevil though and wanted one of us to stand at the top, the other at the bottom of the street and to freewheel down the street between us - giggling the whole way). Matthew is a bit more conservative and there is a good chnce he will simply not be interested and put it in the too hard basket - which will put an end to my imagined family bike rides around the lake.
