Hi,

I am about to start looking for someone to look after my kids 2 days a week and my preference is for someone to come to my house - a nanny I guess.

Before I use an agency I was thinking about looking on findababysitter.com.au but you have to pay to become a member so before I do that I was wondering if anyone else in the ACT has had success with it and what did you think of the quality of people on there????

Also would consider taking my kids to someone elses house (not family day care though) or having a mummy nanny come here.

Hey if anyone is interested let me know grin.gif

Cheers
Sarah

I cant tell you stories about the nanies in ACT but I am a nanny in Sydney and I have only heard great things from both parents and nannies. I love the sight because I get to post exactly the position and salary expectations. When you go through an agency they often mislead both the family and the nanny.

BTW I am an ex nanny (now professional) 5 years full time nanny experience/qualified teacher/ first aid certificate with reference so I guess it gives you some idea of the type of canidates on line.

Also many nannies use it to get local work rather than having to travel. For example I know babysit for two families in my suburb and I can walk to both jobs - also I know the area so I feel comfortable taking the children out ect.

Give it a go agencies charge an absolute fortune and they are not always that intersted in finding the right nanny/position for each party.

I don't know anyone who is a nanny personally but just a note if you considering hiring someone directly (not through an agency) you are then responsible for things like workcover insurance, tax etc. I thought of going through this site too and then when I added all the extra costs onto the hourly rate, it works out almost the same as going through an agency....
