Can anyone recommend some must see shops in Melbourne, I am going on the weekend and have no idea where to start.
thanks

try the factory outlets. bridge road/street and i forget the other area that's meant to be good!

I (too) would suggest Bridge Road in Richmond for all the factory outlets ... we stayed not far from here and found heaps of good shops all within very easy walking distance of each other.
sef
in you are staying nearby the DFO's are quite a good place for outlet type shopping

you can't go past the big shopping centres like Chadstone or Highpoint, if you want everything under one roof

and if the weather behaves itself, walk around the CBD...the new GPO, Melbourne Central, QV are all great shopping places, while still allowing you the fun of being in the city...not the suburbs...

have fun!

Oh I miss Melbourne... we just came back from an 18 month work transfer and I miss it dearly.

We lived a five minute walk to Bridge Rd in Richmond. It was nice but it isn't my sort of thing. You'd score some good things if you are a size 10 or less. Some nice shoe shops - more a young teenage thing. The plus size shop is there too. The Earnest Hillier Chocolate shop is in Church street (off bridge road) - a must if you have a sweet tooth. Also next to the chocolate shop is a fantastic seconds manchester shop "Fawlty Towels".... it is divine!

If I'm shopping for clothes I prefer Smith street in Collingwood. You'd have to catch a tram there but it isn't that far. You'll find heaps of sporting factor outlets there and the Nike shop is great. You'll also find the matel shop, breville factory and a couple more.

Can I come? happy.gif unsure.gif cool.gif

I have heard that the DFO outlet at Soencer st station ( i think that is where it is) is good as well..

thanks for the responses, I will enjoy my trip (child and parter free - girls weekend)...what would i do without EB

When we lived there I loved Brandsmart at Nunawading (like DFO). I never really found much on Bridge Road, despite all the hype. Might have been a different story if I was a size 8 wink.gif.

Chadstone Shopping Centre is worth a look, Southland isn't too bad either.

Ooh, looking forward to a trip to Melbourne later in the year biggrin.gif.

Oh, and IKEA at Richmond is great too (although the Sydney store is fairly similar now)

The last time I seriously shopped in Melbourne was before DS was born (and he'll be 4 in a few weeks). I found heaps on Bridge Road and I most definitely was not a size 8 or 10 at the time (more a size 12). Maybe things have changed since then but I do remember coming home with lots of bags. original.gif

I remember when Bridge Road was the place to shop for bargains but as Puggle and Little E have said, it's a different demographic these days and not quite the bargain place it used to be.

Smith Street Collingwood is amazing, nearly every shop is a factory outlet so everything from books to clothes, lingerie and the place to buy sports shoes, Nike, New Balance, Converse all have outlets there that are very well stocked.

The Kambrook outlet is great for electrical stuff and Mattel is good if you know your prices before hand.

We visited both of these recently and have to agree fantastics shops to get to. A friend got a beautiful King doona for $20 at Fawlty Towels.

There is also a good Bonds outlet in Toorak, just off Toorak road if you're a standard size original.gif

Probably not what you are looking for, but my favourite Melbourne shop is Meet Me At Mikes in Brunwick Street Fitzroy. Very cute, all handmade and very funky. I only bought some hair clips when I was there, but came away full of inspiration.
brazen
ohhh isn't that where lottielulu sells her gorgeous stuff?
