Hi,

DS has started to wean himself so DH and I are starting to think that we may soon be able to get ourselves a babysitter occasionally in order to go out just the two of us.

What I'd like to hear from people was how they went about finding someone they were comfortable leaving their child with, and if anyone has any specific recommendations can you please PM me with the details if you don't mind?

Cheers,
Helen.

Hi there,

We usually use a girl from Daycare where DS goes to babysit for us when we want to go out and the fact that DS knows who it is make a real difference.

Or at playgroup we have a babysitting club and we use vouchers for this (it works on an hourly basis) where each person is given 10 hours worth of vouchers you swap vouvhers when you babysit. This is great as you can use them during the day too.

If this does not work for you then there are the agencies that you could use - Dial an Angel (have a look in the Yellow Pages) - but this is an expensive option.

Hope that I have been of some help.

I've used an agency in Canberra called Mary Poppins and they were brilliant. While expensive, they are cheaper than dial an angel and have the added security of being police checked. If you have a young child (under 2 I think) or request it, they will send a professional nanny, otherwise it's uni students or mums looking for extra cash. All staff have experience and first aid certificates and own transport. I can't remember how much it is exactly, but they are well worth calling if you can't find any other option.
