If she is interested in going through the Birth Centre at Canberra Hospital in Woden tell her to ring now to see if she can book in. They fill up VERY quickly and she can always cancel later. They run information sessions every week. The number is 6244 3145.

Calvary Hospital at Bruce is really good. I had a baby in the private section last year (and will be having another one at the same place later this year). I've visited in the public section and it looks just as good, the difference mainly being the shared room. But the staff are equally good on both sides of the ward. The only things Calvary doesn't have are a birthing centre (but at Canberra Hospital you need to BOOK EARLY) and a NICU for prem babies (hopefully unnecessary).

I had DS at Calvery public and I really liked it. I was in a 2 bedroom and I was in there on my own. I think they have 2 4 bedrooms and if you a CS you get a room on your own. The midwifes were really nice as well. I would go through them again if we decide to have another child.

hi
I would ring the Birth Centre at woden hospital . They are really great there. double bed, dimmed lights, shower and bath,. very private and family can come in and be with you. or wait in the lounges they have there. they have a microwave and free tea and coffee. it is a wonderful place to give birth.
Ring a book in . i was on the waiting list and just a week ago i got a phone call saying i am in the program.
I was only on the waiting list for like a week.

Hey girls, can any of you tell me anything else about the Birthing Centre? I'm not able to get 'the tour' for a few weeks, and I am really curious about it!

Ta!

Lauren firstly have you booked in? If not do it now you can always cancel later. Sorry I don't have time to write more now, but perhaps start a thread on it, I know lots of other local EBers will have comments too. I will get back to it later for you (when DD is asleep original.gif).
