Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can get Aiden to keep panadol down?

Poor baby has blood blisters on his top gums from his teeth. Its painful to say the least. Doc told me to just use sm33 and panadol but if i give panadol he just gags and throws up (along with anything else in his tum) which then in turn upsets his reflux.

There is probably a better place to post this but im tired after a rough night with Aiden and can hardly think straight. To top it off DH has gone to Melbourne for Easter in our one and only car so going to get something other than panadol is out of the question atm, besides its good friday.

Hi Cheryl,

Not sure I can help as Panadol was the one medicine that Bella always loved taking but have you tried giving the dose in smaller quantities perhaps. Otherwise I'm sure someone else might be able to offer some suggestions.

However, if someone can suggest anything else that you can use, you have my number, PLEASE CALL ME!! We're just down the road and I'm happy to pick up anything you need. There's nothing worse than being stuck by yourself with an unhappy baby.

Cheers,

Nicola

I don't know if this helps at all, but my little alex throws up every single time his given chemist brand panadol. I don't know what it is, maybe its thicker, maybe it the flavouring.
But panadol brand, panadol (we use colour free), he doesn't seem to have a problem with it(i don't know why). But we sometimes(on a bad day) put it in some juice or water.

But if you think this might be the same for your little one, I have an un-opened box i brought yesterday (panadol had a free carry case for the nappy bag). If you want to give it a try. PM me.

I hope this helped

Hi Cheryl,

I don't know if this is helpful as I'm not sure where there would be a chemist open today.

DS used to take Panadol under sufferance only until we changed to Nurofen. He now won't touch panadol (imagine projectile spats all over the place whenever we try). But with Nurofen he loves it, so much so that he sucks the dose dry. And it seems to help him much more than the panadol. It might be worth trying this instead. I don't know where there would be a chemist open today but I would definitely get a small bottle and see if this works for you. It certainly helped break the pain cycle when DS was at his worst with teething.

Hope you and DS get some relief and much needed sleep soon.

Cheers,
Helen.

Hmm my guys are ok with panadol, we sometimes use Nurofen but you shouldn't use it if there is nothing in the little ones tum sad.gif

Um is he on solids now? Could you try mixing it with some food, ie pureed apple or something?

I would be giving Health first a call, 6207 7777 and having a chat with them. Even if they can't give any advice re the panadol they should at least be able to tell you which chemist is open today and where.

Then give one of the lovely ladies on here a yell to grab some for you. Please do let us know though if you need/want a hand with anything as thats what we are here for original.gif

Cheers

My sisters kids couldn't keep panadol down but could take panamax. May be worth just asking the chemist if there is an alternative.

Hi

This is the first opportunity i have had to get back here and check what wonderful pieces of advice you all had. Thankyou so much for your offers of help.

I ended up ringing my mum (who else do you call when your in the dumps??) and my youngest sister had the same problem so mum used to do the water and juice trick for her so i thought i would give it a try. Thank God it stayed down and now he is sleeping peacefully for the second time today.
Ill be getting some nurofen tomorrow!!!

The best thing I ever came across were Panadol suppositories. DD was a shocker with taking medicine so our GP suggested these. They work really well and aren't too difficult to 'administer'!

Hi Cheryl,

I know you posted this a while ago as I've been to and returned from my holiday in Western Australia in the meantime but I thought I'd see how you were getting on with Aiden and the pain caused by his teething problem. Did you get on to the nurofen and sm33 gel? Did it help? I hope so for all your sakes.

Cheers,
Helen.

Hi Helen

Aiden is doing much better thanks:) The teeth still havent come through but at least no more blisters.

The sm33 gel is great. I tried the panadol mixed with a bit of water and juice and he took that fine.Still doesnt like the panadol but now will keep it down. I never got a chance to get the nurofen...on my todo list. Now i just use a syringe when i have to give any medication (which is rarely) like the teething relief stuff and he just sucks it out of the syringe. Still doesnt like the panadol but now will keep it down. I never got a chance to get the nurofen...on my to do list.

He was so good at doing that i thought i would try him on a dinkee cup with a straw for his water with his meals....hes a champ at sucking on a straw to have a drink and has now worked out when to stop sucking so he doesnt splutter everywhere.

Please tell me what you got up to in WA, Im feeling a little homesick of late and i used to spend a lot of time down near MArgaret River and Busselton, and Freo is one of my all time favourite places. Id love to hear what you got up to. (i hope you didnt get that really hot weather that they had)

Hi Cheryl,

I'm so glad to hear that Aiden is doing much better - I'm sure that it won't be long before his teeth will start coming through. Really good that there aren't any more blisters.

We found the sm33 gel a big help, especially as he cut his fifth (and maybe his sixth, though he won't let us check) while we were away. Oh what joy that was I can tell you.

I might try giving the panadol that we still have left over in the way that you are as Christopher hates it too.

Just wait til you try the nurofen - the difference in both giving it to them (Christopher loves it) and how well it helps with the pain of teething.

You've reminded me to start trying Christopher on a sipper cup. He's taking a bottle for his water and juice now and I don't mind if he uses them for a little longer, but ideally I'd like to wean him from bottles altogether.

And now to our recent jaunt westwards .......
You must have been reading my itinerary as all the places you've mentioned are the places we went to. We started off staying in East Perth for a few days. This was good, but we did cop the very hot weather so were relieved that our apartment had good air conditioning.
We then headed down to Margaret River for a few days there. It was here that we ran into really foul weather. The temperature plummeted from the mid 30's to tops of just 15 or so. Given that, and the cold gale force winds and torrential rain, it really made us feel like we were smack bang in the middle of winter. Despite that, we did have lots of fun there, wine-tasting and sight-seeing. The warm weather returned just in time for us to drive back north with time in Busselton on the way. Absolutely loved Geographe Bay - how beautiful is that region.
For our last few days we stayed in Freo. The place we stayed in was right on the waterfront at Fisherman's Harbour. Glorious weather and scenery made for a great finale to our holiday. We loved Freo so much that we've sworn to return someday and stay there for longer so we can explore even more.

So I take it you're from WA - whereabout's exactly?

We'll have to catch up soon as I don't think we've done so since just before Christmas at Rodney's.

Cheers,
Helen.

Aiden's top tooth came through today...YAyyyyy!!

Helen, if i ever win lotto im gonna live in Freo...though i think the fremantle doctor would give me the sh*ts!!!!

Im originally from Mandurah which is about an hour south of Perth. More than likely you would have gone through there on your way down south. Before we moved here we lived in Australind/Eaton (just before Bunbury)
which you also would have gone past unless of course you went via the south west highway.
There is so many beautiful places through Margaret River/Dunsborough/Yallingup/Busselton its hard to pick just one. Not to mention wineries?
Did you get to the chocolate factory? (a little overrated) or the cheese factory (yummy )
ONe of my favourite places is the Wicked Ale Brewery. They make alcoholic ginger beer, passionfruit beer, chilli beer, chocolate beer plus a few others. Not many people know about it unfortunately so you may not have been there (its between Dunsborough and yallingup)

Im glad you had a great time, im sorry the weather was crap for you. March is a yucky time weather wise in WA i think....very hot usually

Hope to catch up with you soon!

Cheryl

Congratulations Aiden!!! (about time, lol)

Cheryl, I'm like you now - if we ever win the lottery or such we're definitely going back to Freo. Not sure if we'll live there but we'd certainly spend alot more time there than we did this past holiday. The 'doctor' was certainly in residence while we were there - talk about noisy, lol.

We drove through Mandurah on our way south via the coast road. And I remember where Australind is having driven through Bunbury on the way to Margaret River and then on the way back north.

I know what you mean about the M/R region - it's beautiful everywhere you look so I can't pick a favourite. Having Christopher with us, and him not being the most patient, we didn't go to alot of wineries. But out of the ones we did I would have to say that my favourite was Vasse Felix. Have you been there?

We didn't get to the chocolate factory or the cheese factory, but we did make it to the fudge factory and that was great.

We loved the Wicked Ale Brewery. We stopped there as we left M/R via Caves Road. It's great isn't it? I had the ginger beer while DH had the chilli beer. Both were very very nice.

The weather didn't spoil our holiday at all. It was nice to experience the torrents of rain seeing as we don't get much here. And I don't mind the heat as long as I'm not out in it without any form of shelter.

You're not far from me here are you? Maybe we could catch up at Cooleman Court for a cuppa and cake one day if you like. Let me know.

And thanks so much for your TTC wishes - it really means alot to me.

Cheers,
Helen.
