My DS is just over 5 months and we are starting to have trouble with our day sleeps. He is pretty content so it is quite hard to tell when he is tired. He is now only sleeping about 1 hour per day sleep and wakes up ok but when he feeds he gets sleepy so I assume he needs a little more sleep.

What is your DS/DD awake time and how long are their day sleeps?

MY DS is 6 months old...He goes to bed at 7pm....wakes at 4am for a feed back down till 8am..... He is up for an hour and goes back for an hour or so...Up feeds and plays and goes back about 12pm for another hour. Again up feeds and plays and goes back about 3pm for another hour or so....He is the king of catnapers..LOL

I found a really good routine on babybliss.com.au. It took a few days for him to settle to it (he took to it quite well as we were sort of following the same routine anyway).

I have found since sticking to the routine as much as I can (it is hard when you are out doing things) that his night sleeping has improved and his day sleeps are a bit longer.

He usually has his last feed at 8pm and straight to bed. Wakes between 4-5am for a feed and straight back down for 1-2 hours. This has only just started and we are very happy to be getting more sleep.

He is always up for 2 hours and then goes to bed. He sounds the same as yours he is so content that sometimes doesnt whinge to say he is sleepy so I have to watch for other signs (he rubs his eyes).

If he is up longer than 2.5 hours he will go to sleep fine but stirs because he is overtired. So for me I find him being up 2 hours and then bed works well.

He has a 2 hour nap in the morning and then a nap in the middle of the day for 1.5 - 2 hours. His last nap is usually about 1 hour. If he wakes before 1.5 hours for his two early naps I will try to resettle. If he has had 1.5 hours I get him up. I just judge it. Sometimes you can see he needs to go back to sleep and sometimes he is lying there happy as larry and smiling and laughing. I just judge each sleep as it comes.
