Someone was asking, way back, about where to get a "real" christmas tree from.
Anyway I have noticed a few signs up and adds so thought I would post.
RSPCA
Magnet mart
Bunnings are all doing them.
Cheers

Alex, you beat me to it

- I saw the advert on the side of the (Cotter) road for the fresh christmas trees for sale at the RSPCA. No prices as far as I could see though (I was driving).
Now who was it that was after this ...... ?
Cheers for now,
Helen.

I saw some at the Hall Markets on Sunday that were the most beautiful trees I've seen. They were a bit dearer, but they're local and weren't all wiry like a lot of the trees that don't seem to have any branches. I took a leaflet for next year (I've blackbanned Christmas decorations this year) and I would be happy to pass on the details to anyone interested.

Here's the website for the gorgeous Hall Markets trees.....
www.christmastrees.net.au
They are based in Gundaroo - and you can go pick/harvest your own if you like or they will do it for you.
I believe they also are going to have a site next to the Tennis Centre there in Lyneham (at the T intersection) of Ginninderra Drive/Mouat Street.
The guy is really nice and friendly too!

Auugggh, I've been driving around all day trying to find a real christmas tree but NO LUCK!
RSPCA are all sold out and wont have any more this christmas.
The guy at epic markets had this on his website...
APOLOGY We have a limited amount of suitable trees left due to the continued drought. We are saving our trees for our pre purchased customers and for those people who want to visit our farm and to choose and collect their tree. We WILL NOT be selling any trees in Canberra this year at our usual locations. You can collect your tree from our farm at Gundaroo any day until 24 Dec. We are open everyday from 8am to 6pm. .
So tomorrow I'm off to Shingle Hill way on the Federal Hwy to see if I can get one. My sister reckons she buys one every year from Belconnen markets but they are pretty spindley.
I have to admit I'm in two minds about christmas trees. One is I love the real christmas trees but how right is it to cut down trees that we only use for a month and then discard? From an environmental point of view, I hate it. On the other hand, is it really christmas with a plastic tree? But they are so easy and the decorations dont fall off...sigh.
Any other thoughts on the best way to go?

I saw a stack near the glass lift at Belconnen Mall on Thursday. It smelled just like a pine forest.
ETA: this sure is an old thread, I got a chuckle out of Carla's post in particular when I worked out how old Sophie is - no wonder she wasn't doing Christmas that year!
To me, part of Christmas is the smell of a real tree. Plus, cutting a branch or two off the bottom and using small pieces bunched together on the walls with a few decorations spreads it around the house.
I wouldn't worry about the environmental issue - the pines they use are pretty much weeds, only a couple or three years old. They are in no danger of extinction and are quickly replenished every year. They do not require watering or anything like that (think the pine forests around Canberra).
Hope you find a good one.
