Does anyone have any stories to tell about roof restoration in Canberra? Good or bad. Any recommended companies, or not?
Thanks

I have heard that "Watch This Roof" are very negotiable on their prices. A friend of mine got a quote for around $5000 told them they couldn't afford it and then they were only charged about half that!!!!!! I have heard this story a couple of times so I would imagine that they deliberatly overquote IYKWIM.
Having said that, DHs dad was a builder and he told us that concrete roof tiles should last for 50 years and you really only need to replace cracked tiles and get the tiles repointed when needed. He thinks that the roof restoration companies are just a gimmick.

Lol, Watch This Roof worry me, I've heard horror stories about them. A guy came and quoted the other day, he started at $5500 and ended up at $3500, we still basically kicked him out the door, he was horrible. He walked in after measuring the roof, said 'what colour do you want, and when do you want it done', I said 'have we had a quote yet', his reply was 'well that all depends on when you want it done', I walked out of the room at this stage as he was arrogant and smart and I didn't want to tell him where to go in front of my children. He was loud and overbearing and I think I'm quite prepared to pay double just so I don't have to use them.
Karen, our house is 30 years old and the tiles are in need of repair, we want to get them rebedded and it's a horrid mission brown colour, hence a colour change to a nice charcoal or something. I'm just concerned if we went with Watch This Roof, how would we know they are rebedding and not just repointing and are they serious about putting five coats on when the others say they do three. How do we know they stic five coats on? I can't stand there and watch, lol.
Arghhhh, anyone know someone who can do it for me???

My mother got Watch this Roof to do their roof. When she told me it cost $4,500 I asked her how many other quotes did she get. She said none. I asked her if she was mad and if she had money just to throw away, she could throw it at me. All they did was basically paint the roof and replaced broken tiles. Seeing broken tiles only cost about $2 each to replace, I think she was very badly ripped off. Their house is fairly small, probably only 11 square and a simple rectangular shape so the ridge capping is just in a straight line. The only saving grace about it all is that it comes with a 10 year warranty, but hey if tiles last 50 years, so what?
My advice to you, which was too late to give to my mum, is always get at least 3 quotes when considering doing any kind of major, or even minor, work done to your home.
I will tell my mum about this - she definitely was ripped off that is for sure. But then, more fool her for just throwing her money away!!

Hiya.
I had my roof done with Canberra Roof Restoration (now "Watch this roof") about 4 years ago. It cost about $2000 dollars but we ended up paying less (can't remember exactly how much), because they made a real botch of it. They did not clean the stuff out of the gutters first and painted it all in, plus they spilt paint all around the house, ruining one awning which had to be replaced. If our cars had been parked in the driveway they would have been wrecked as well. After all that we discovered it leaked in the next heavy rain and for the last 3 years there have been signs of cracking paint. As for the warranty, ha ha! We have tried a few times to get someone out but it is impossible. When they have been to other houses in my street DH has approached them to get them over but they won't. It may be because the business has changed hands but who knows. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend it at all.
My neighbour recently had someone (not sure which company) start the job but they made such a mess preparing the roof that he told them to get lost.
(there's my 2 cents)

Sorry but Watch this roof are scum.... There was a story about them on either today tonight or a Current affair a while ago. Basically they tell you that the roof needs to be repainted as it will leak (roof tiles do not leak they are not porous) It is a gimmick.

Thanks everyone.
Well after four quotes we had them ranging from $2600 to $6300 (which was discouted from $7500). I think I've decided to go with Nu-Seal at $3680. There are so many different products on the market, lol. Fingers crossed we've chosen the right one.
As for Watch This Roof, rofl, horrid horrid man!!

Bringing up an o-l-d thread

I'm buying a house, I'm buying a house...
And it needs its tiles fixed but that's all. Yippee!
So, has anyone else got a roof restoration story for me? Pip, how was Nu-Seal?

M&D used a guy they were pretty happy with - he charged reasonably and did a good job. only problem was he took quite a few months to come back to repair a small leak his work had caused - but he did come back eventually! let me know if you'd like his name and number...
