I have an older model Urban twin / side-by-side mountain buggy (used it for my daughters when they were toddler and new born) and it is still in good condition but it doesn't fold down very small.

I am now expecting twins and I am looking at the ION twin pram... I have limited boot space in the car so I am hoping this folds down more compact. Anyone tried one of these?

2010 pram guide has been updated!!
5 new prams being released so far - with the new Baby Jogger pram to hit the stores next month

Hi,

I just thought I should post here and share my own pram shopping experience since I spent hours researching online and only found that we bought something altogether different when we went in the store.

As new parents of 5 week old twin girls, I can't rave about the Stryder Plus with second seat enough. Not only is it affordable compared to other models - I can't remember the exact cost but it's significantly less than the $1000 mark (including the extra second seat) but it's compact to wheel around and can be disassembled easily without weighing a tonne. It turned out to be an unexpected but a sound investment for us.

To anyone considering a side by side pram - RECONSIDER!!!!
We were all set on getting this type of configuration (possible one of the Valco models) but we are extremely glad that were advised last minute by a baby bunting staff to consider the stryder plus model (apparently it's popular for twin parents). At first when we looked at the lower second seat, I was a little dubious at the having a baby so low. It seems silly now since it's such a clever design...Both our girls settle well when they're riding in either seat. The pram feels and looks durable that I can easily see them being comfortable in it as they get bigger, and taking it for more vigorous walks when I want a bit of exercise.

We were told by everyone that we wouldn't even think about going anywhere the first few weeks, but we regularly took our bubs out to shopping centres and restaurants from age 2 weeks. I doubt we would have been as inclined to do so if we had larger pram.

So far I haven't had any trouble getting through doors or aisles and it's very comfortable to push around. Size wise being a more double decker/stacked configuration, its seems comparible to a single pram only it has slightly larger back wheels (and I like the wheel design too) which I occassionally bump into things with - but that's more because I'm a crappy driver of prams. ;-)

I'm completely satisfied with our purchase, there's nothing I can really fault about it but it is worth nothing that having the lower seat means it's not as super convenient to access the under the seat storage area but it's still sufficient. The fact that we enjoy taking the girls out for trip because they settle into a nap so well in it has been great for keeping us sane and not feeling house bound.

Anyway, it's definately worth a demo when you're in the store. Here's a link as well.

We have friends expecting twins next year and top of our list of recommendation is the Stryder Plus!

Cheers,

I have twins, and purchased the Baby Jogger City Select - it is a brilliant pram. I searched every site possible to find a pram that would connect 2 capsules. (I had used a capsule for my DS into a steelcraft stroller)
This was my priority in a double pram. All the prams could only connect 1 capsule - Mountain Buggy, iCandy, strollers etc. Baby Jogger City Select - was the only pram on the market.
I use my safe n sound capsules (unity) and have the adaptors on the BJCS - it can be a little bit fiddly at times, but once you get used to it, not a worry.
I receive so so many comments every time i take the BJCS out - "what a fantastic pram with the capsules". Wish they'd had prams like that in my day!"
I haven't used the BJCS with the seats as yet, but sure it will be just as good.
I also just purchased the MacLaren Twin Techno - need a double stroller for travelling.

Im about to have my twins soon and am looking for a new pram as the one iv got will not accomdate two babies. The two i cant decide between are steelcraft strider pluse or city jogger select.Iv read some bad reviews on the city jogger saying all way needing repairs ect.So any feed back would be good

There's a great new pram on the Australian market called the ABC Zoom.
Its a Danish design and is quite compact. It is able to take 2 maxi cosi capsules, or 2 bassinettes or 2 regular seats. The configurations are amazing, facing each other, away from each other, both forward, both rearward and a multitude of other ways!
Have a look here to see the styles and colours.
Its a reasonable price too.

Hi mum3under3 I have the BJ City Select and have had no issues with it at all I am not currently using it as a double but have a friend who is and she loves it also! We were originally going to get the Strider plus but I don't like the idea of one child being underneath so close to the ground and the second seat not being a full size seat. Where as the city select has the same size seats for each child.

I have seen a lot of the strider plus around and everytime I see them I notice the wheels are wobbling or broken. I did a bit of research on them when we were considering one and found a lot of feedback regarding the strider plus having problems. I am so glad we went with the baby Jogger City Select it is so compact and easy to fold/unfold I LOVE this pram can't say enough good things about it!

That ZOOM Pram is the only pram I ever coveted. I so wish it had been available in Aus when I needed the pram.

The good thing about it is people actually have it in stock and can supply it in a week.

Beats the heck out of the crap supply issues the BJCS has

There are no longer supply issues for those who want to buy it from the shops. It's all the run around with getting it from overseas that is the problem.

At least two pregnant twin Mums from this forum have walked out of the shop with everything they need in the past couple of months. One of the baby stores even had them on sale so they had plenty of stock to get rid of.

I agree I only waited a week for mine to come in I don't think it's really a case of "crappy supply issues" I think it's more that they have become so popular in Australia they are flying out of stores. I always get asked where my pram came from and what brand it is nearly everytime I go out of the house!

*sigh*
Silly me...... should have clarified my post by citing specific states and specific stores

Here in WA the stores themselves still have a 12 week wait on orders not counting back orders that would add to that delivery time.

The BJCS is not the be all and the end all- this pram is also a fantastic alternative rolleyes.gif

They create lots of attention don't they? My two sit with the soles of their feet touching while they face each other and people comment on how cute it looks.

Sure do my mum always comments on how many people stare at the pram or come over to talk to me about the pram and ask questions about it and I don't even have it set up like a double yet think I should get paid some sort of commission from BJ biggrin.gif

I also have the baby jogger city select for my twins, it's the best purchase we ever made. We bought the bassinets also, these are great in the early months as they double as a portable cot as they lay completely flat. I get so many comments from people and it's so easy to push/turn. I see the strider plus around quite alot, and realy notice the design is less than refined, it looks quite badly made; maybe you get what you pay for (it's about half the price of the city select).
Im really looking forward to changing to the toddler seats and seeing how our girls react to facing each other!
The other benefit of the city select as opposed to side by side prams is that when we have a 3rd baby, the pram converts back to a single which means the cost is spread over 3 kids, which you cant do with a side by side.

HI there,

Just a question about the BJ city select. I love the look of it and all the
various combinations. I just wondered what people think of it as a pram for
2 toddlers? Is there enough room? I just worry that they won't have enough leg room.
Also has anyone had any experience pushing the pram with toddlers? Is it heavy?
Sorry for all the questions and if this isn't the right place to post!! feel free to move!

Thanks in advance!

FYI - the Mamas & Papas "SOLA" is now available in Australia @ BabysRus. Grass, Black & Truffle colours.
Like the Urbo but with bigger wheels. Very similar design to the Urbo and functionality.

I am a big fan of the Baby Jogger City Select. It is a very good twin pram in its versatility, folds small, is light, takes two car capsules, has a small and narrow wheel base and is generally very well made. Having two car capsules to transfer from car to pram with twins makes early twin life much easier. Dummies/blankets/toys come with you and you can do a whole shopping trip without undoing a 5 point harness. It has great shade cover and the ability to turn the seats to face any which way means you can easily keep your babies out of direct sun. The basket underneath is enormous and enough to do nearly a full shop for a small family. For shopping and city walking it is great.

However, I have recently discovered the Mountain Buggy Urban double. This is like the 4WD of prams. Too big to fold up each time and put in the car, it's the pram you have set up in the garage ready for local walks. It takes all sorts of bumps and terrain in its stride, with big wheels and suspension it is absolutely stable off road and is almost as easy to push on grass as it is on concrete. I took it off road in the bush today and it handled brilliantly. I bought mine last week from an EBer for less than $200. I've lost 20kg and have ripped abs already... it's awesome. wink.gif

For sanity and shopping - the BJCS and for your walking health and getting the body back in shape the double Mountain Buggy. original.gif
