Hi there, I'm not sure if I post this in the right place, but I can't seem to find an appropriate forum for this...

In my 6 weeks post-natal check up, I was prescribed with this Ovestin Ovula Pessaries by my ob, to be used twice a week. It's not a form of contraception, but I believe it's a kind of "hormone' thingy. I told my ob that sex is very painful for me . He said it's normal as I'm breastfeeding. So far I've only used the pessaries twice.

I was wondering if anyone has used this pessary before or was advised to use it by your doctor before. Is it effective? and is there any side-effects that you experienced? Would appreciate to get any comments/feedback from any of you.

Back in 2004 I had the same problem when I was breastfeeding DD. Breastfeeding lowers you Oestrogen levels and cause vaginal wall fragility and dryness (similar to what occurs during menopause.

I didn't get prescribed the pessaries though, I got the cream. I can't exactly remember how often I had to use it, but I know it was more than twice a week. I am vaguely recalling it may have been every second day.

Anyway I only needed to use it for about 2-3 weeks and the problem resolved.

The side effect I was warned about was a possible drop in breastmilk supply, but this did not happen in my case.

Hi Wendy, thanks for your info. Hope it doesn't effect on my breastmilk supply. Will watch this in the next couple of weeks. If it does, guess I will stop taking it...

My obgyn also perscribed me Ovestin Ovula after my 6 weeks post natal check and got papsmear done. The test went back unsatisfactory and requires me to use it everyday for 2 weeks before repeating the test. How did it go with your treatment? did ovula solve the problem?

i have used vagifem pessaries in the past as i have the pain 80% of the time whether bf or not (vulvar vestibulitis syndrome). i have been told it may reduce milk supply but it has a generally localised effect. i am thinking of using it again as my burning pain is terrible atm. i have used ovestin cream as well when i had a sore episiotomy scar to soften the scar tissue.

Do you have to get a prescription to get the cream?

My Scar is still hurting and DH thinks that it was actually swen up too far. I'd love to be able to do something about it because DD is 11weeks old and we've only been able to try sex twice because it hurst otehrwise.
