I have a friend who is looking for a birthing centre where she can give birth to her baby in water. I was just wondering if there was any place like this in south western syd that u didnt need private health insurance for? In the Liverpool Fairfield area...
Any help would be recieved gratefully. Thank you.

I have been looking for a Public Hospital Birth Centre that practices true natural birthing.

The best suggestion that came my way was the Birth Centre at Royal Hospital for Women, POW Randwick. I live in the Liverpool area and it is a 40min trip along the M5. I know that over 40% of their births are water.

You could also try Bankstown Hospital. I've been told by Jan Robinson (a very well known and respected midwife(she has a website)) that the midwives there "take pride in their midwifery care being focused on women's needs". You will need to ask about water births.

I have also looked at the Birth Centre at Camden. But they don't practice true natural birthing and I don't think they would offer a true water birth. Your probably better off spending the travel time to Randwick.

Congratulations to your friend and best of luck in finding what she is looking for. Don't give up.

As far as I know, birth centres are only found in public hospitals in NSW - so you won't need private insurance to use one! KGV in Camperdown is another in Sydney, marginally closer than RHW. It might be referred to KGV Mother and Babies (or something) now though. They've recently moved to new facilities.

I had my baby earlier this year, in the water, at RHW BC Randwick (where MariChild is going). I've raved about them enough on this forum blush.gif. You can do a search on this thread.

Good luck!
