Whats with some of these mchns?? Same story here!!
We'd go in feeling very positive about DS, and always focussed on what he could do. They pretty much only focussed on what he couldnt do. As a pp said, we'd come out feeling very depressed and dejected. At the 18 month check up, they said DS had language delays (duh, we knew that), said that he was unusually obsessed with spinning wheels even tho he only did it that day! ..sent us off for hearing tests (even though he's someone that can hear cotton touch felt and wakes up as a result of the "noise"

) and we ended up with 6 months of speech therapy, 3 developmental assessments and worried about autism the whole time. Not that we regret the speech therapy, but we worried so much about whether he was "normal". Thro all this we had family on our back telling us off for listening to these "experts". It was a horrible time and as a family, we suffered and didnt really enjoy those 6 months of our life.
Nowadays we just check his weight once a few months or so; dont take him to the doctor unless he is sick or needs vaccinations. He eats like any other toddler, is happy, active and most importantly, interacts well with other children. Im relying more on his carers at daycare now - they are saying that although he is a bit behind in speech, he is making progress. He's happy and has advanced problem solving skills for his age - and so Im going more by them than anyone else.
