My son bought his "Plant" home from Kindy for Easter. It hadn't started to grow, but it had seeds in it and they had to look after it etc.

Anyhow, we just went to water it, he was holding the hose and I turned the tap and this huge gush of water came out and spread the potting mix (and I assume the seed) everywhere ddoh.gif

So, do you think I should add some more seeds? Get another pot with seeds as a back up? Wait it out?

He so excited about his little plant, the poor little fella, he'll be so sad if it doesn't grow.

All I can think is thank goodness I declined the offer to bring home the kindy bird ohmy.gif

In your shoes, I would explain to your DS what might have happened and do the backup thing. He will learn from participating a second time in the planting process and you will have more to talk about together as you watch the two pots to see if they grow.

I think it's OK for kids to learn that Mums have accidents happen too and that you make it right as best you can.

PS I've never raised seeds before, but I thought you had to have proper seed-raising mix and special tubs for them, etc?

Crikey Kylie, I hope not! The one he brought home is just in normal old potting mix. It's a nasturtium (???) Maybe they're easy to grow or something unsure.gif When they're still in the pot, that is grin.gif Anyhow, we put a little green house over it tonight, perhaps that will help the miracle un fold.

Yes, I think I will do the second pot, we'll have fun doing it together and if they both grow his brother can have the second one.

That's so cute!
I'd plant another pot with another seed.
Nasturtiums are VERY easy to grow and shouldn't require any special treatment other than water and sunshine.
Good luck, keep us informed!

LOL I was coming in to say the same as the PP, nasturtiums will grow anywhere!

I would do the second pot too, and use it as a comparison to teach your DS that plants grow in different ways etc.

Good luck, I hope it grows!

You wont believe it, but we have something growing ddance.gif It's small, and squished over on the edge of the pot, but a plant is a plant!!!!

We are all very excited, DS is extremely proud and can't wait until Kindy goes back so he can take his precious plant.

Thanks for the replies.

oh the challenges of parenting...lol!

biggrin.gif Well done!! What a clever boy (and mummy!)
I can't wait till my DS is old enough to enjoy these types of things. original.gif

Good work on the nasturtium
