my family is a strange one, my mum has premonitions, and my great aunt sees ghosts (like she would see normal people). Lately i have been seeing things, just out of the corner of my eye, like today i was doing my dishes, and my sink look out the back window. I turned around to put a dish away, and swore that i saw a man with shaggy hair looking in at me, but as i turned to look again, it looked liked he ducked down. I dashed outside (he would have had nowhere to go, if he was just "peeping") and there was nothing there..... this has been going on, similar sightings, for years, and i plan to talk to my great aunt about it, but do you believe in ghosts? woudl you think me crazy? its freaked me right out... Also i can "feel" if theres something in the room...

You think i would be used to it, happeneing for years... but it doesnt get any easier...

ETA - and have you had any experiences? i love hearing about them... there was on in that life or take 5 (cant remember which) where the mum took a pic of her daughter and there was a figure in the TV... very freaky..) you can email me (simone_pitcher@hotmail.com) or pm me if u dont want to pot them in here original.gif

Scientifically speaking - no.
But I'm keeping an open mind original.gif

I think there are so many things in life that are hard to explain without any kind of supernatural approach - so who knows?

(and I love watching shows like Gostwhisperer)

I don't really believe in ghosts, but I have had an experience that I can't explain any other way. When I was living in my sister's flat while she was in WA I was brushing my teeth facing the bathroom mirror with the bathroom door open. The flat had the bathroom at the far end of the hallway with the loungeroom on one side of the front end and the dining room on the other side of the front end. Now the mirror was a little fogged up but I distinctly saw the shape of a person walking from the loungeroom to the dining room. I was living there alone and it completely freaked me out, but I went down to the loungeroom so I could doublecheck the door was locked. It was locked, and there was no-one else in the flat. Later when I told my sister about it she told me that her MIL's ashes were in an urn in her (locked) bedroom and that the MIL had always been the type to try to annoy people into leaving her alone. So my sister thinks I've seen the ghost of her late MIL.

At this stage I haven't read or seen any compelling evidence that ghosts exist.

Yes.
A friend of mine can see them.
We were in Mauritius together (he lived there, i was holidaying) and on the first night in the house I had a ghost "check me out". There is a ghost in their (very large) house that has always protected my friend and his little brother.
The ghost/spirit passed thru my body. I was lying in bed and had known about the ghost but wasnt at all worried, then i got a tingling sensation in my feet and it slowly travelled all the way thru me. It wasnt really frightening but weird.

Another night some of us were sitting downstairs, reallylate at night and one guy was up in his bed and we heard the hallway door slam shut and then him calling out/yelling.
When i went up to bed the door was still shut but no windows were open so no wind to blow the door shut.
Then next morning the guy told us that he was lying in bed and he felt someone lie down beside him and he thought it was one of us mucking around and told us to go away. Then he reached over and no one was there. He almost sh*t himself!! tongue.gif

Lots more stories from Mauritius, it is, apparently highly haunted.

Yes definately believe. I have a lady ghost that only comes out when I'm in the house alone, however my sister in law has also seen her. I dont think she likes males! lol biggrin.gif

Also, about 10yrs ago I went to lock the office that I worked in (a building 100yrs old) and after I locked the door I saw a little girl inside wave to me. I went back in thinking I'd locked her in but the office was vacant - no-one at all inside!

I definately beleive blush.gif

yes, have had an experience too, so has my dad.

It was very similar to yours, OP at how you saw "things" from the corner of your eye then Whammo! I was sitting on the lounge and kept seeing white flashes, almost like someones white gown flowing by in the corner of my eye. I remember getting quite annoyed because it was such a distraction to me and I didnt know what was going on! I then got a view of a very beautiful face with gorgeous locks of hair sitting mid air in the door frame to my room looking at me quite concerned then I looked away and looked back and it was gone. I got a phone call a couple of hours later from a friend to tell me that this person I saw had passed away earlier in the week!!!!!! ohmy.gif I didnt realise it was the face i just saw, until after the phone call, i immediatley recognised who the "ghost" face was. He had chemo and lost hair, so maybe that beautiful hair was a compensation for it?

It wasnt scary, just a bit weird, but I think it was him telling me himself that he had died.

We lived in an old house in inner Sydney when I was born and my dad had experiences of seeing a mother and child in that house, walking through his bedroom.

Years ago my DH was staying at an old homestead (like on a property). He was going to sleep out on the verandah and he was still awake, when he could hear footsteps beside him. And he also saw a door open by itself, he then did the bolt inside. He swears this did happen and the owners knew about the ghost too. They say it was an old relative who either died there or lived there a long time ago.(I'm not exactly sure which it was and he's not home at the moment to ask him).

Yes (I had to turn the light on while reading this!)

My mum has had an experience. At our old house our neighbours son died in a car accident. The night after it happened my mum woke to see him sitting on the edge of her bed. She went to see our parish priest about it, he talked to her about the afterlife, and they also thought he may of been confused. Mum and dads bedroom was in the same position in the house as our neighbours, thought that maybe he went to the wrong house and was meaning to go to his mums.

My friend's family live in a older house, her father and brother have seen the spirit of a little girl in a white dress a couple times, mostly it is in the one room and near the fireplace.

I have heard a couple stories - but think these are probably made up -

one about a sayonce (?spelling). A group of people were downstairs calling spirits, when it was over they packed everything away, when they went to bed they could hear the noise of chairs being moved around and when they went downstairs all the chairs were in a big circle again.

Another story was this woman was in her kitchen cooking and all the sudden the stereo was turned up really loud. She yelled out to turn it down, it got even louder. Then she yelled out for her son to put some headphones on, and she walked in and could see headphones floating in the air.

As I said the bottom 2 are probably just ghost stories past on, but yes I do believe for sure!

Yes, i believe. original.gif

Im not sure if I believe in ghosts or not, but have had strange things happen before that I can't explain. One night I was driving DP home from his work at around 3am in the morning and we were coming up to a blind corner. I had an overwhelming urge to pull over, and I did (DP wondering what on earth I was doing laugh.gif ). A few seconds later a car came flying around the corner on our side of the road, full of drunk blokes ohmy.gif Even though we were pulled over onto the verge they still only just missed us, so I'd hate to think how it would have ended if I'd kept driving. I also had a dream a few years ago about my Grandpa (who died when I was two), and in the dream he sang me a song that I had never heard before and gave me a message for my Mum. When I eventually told her about it, she said the song was one he sang to her at bedtime when she was young and that that same night she had asked him for help.
I don't know, I'd like to believe in ghosts and things, but Im not really convinced. It's a nice thought that there might be people looking after us though biggrin.gif

I have had a number of experiences. I don't know if it is caused by actual ghosts, demons, (etc) or what, but I do believe there is something out there that we don't fully understand or know about. Well anyway, here are my experiences:

Sometimes im mom's house I would hear strange things that I couldn't explain. Like men talking in the basement, people walking around and talking on the roof, people walking up and down our stairs, something shuffling around in my closet, and mom calling out to me when no one else is home. I used to think it was just things like the house settling, my imagination, etc, until I found out my brother and boyfriend (current df) also heard those things (my brother even admitted to hearing mom calling out to him a number of times when no one else was home, and df said he has heard mom call out to me when she wasn't home...and no, mom is not dead)

I don't know if this was just my imagination or not (it seemed really real, but I was only a little girl at the time), but one time when I was younger I was reading in the living room and I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye so I looked at the top of the stairs and there was a tall, black figure stand there. I stared at it for a little while, until it streiked down the stairs towards me. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, it was gone.

One night while leaving the bathroom I looked in the room at the end of the hall and saw the face of an old man in the window (I know no one was outside because this was on the top floor of a three storey house). I thought I was mistaken and actually saw my reflection, so when I got enough nerve, I went to the window, and I couldn't see my reflection until I was actually in the room and almost right up to the window.

A couple of times while sleeping over at a friend's house, I saw a small (about the size of a child) black figure standing by the bed next to my friend. When I told her about that she said 'oh yeah, that happens all the time' Another time at her house we thought we saw her brother looking in the window so we went outside to catch him. No one was there, and there was a fresh layer of snow on the ground but there were no footprints anywhere near her window.

At another friend's house I was told I should sleep on the couch because the spare room was just painted. I said 'sure I can just sleep in *that* room instead' and my friend's mother told me I can't sleep in that room because that is the room her mother died in, and her spirit visits that room quite often. I asked if anyone there saw her spirit, and they all (my friend, her brother, and her mother and father) said they had.

That same friend's mother also told me that if they left a window open at one end of the house, they had to leave another window open at the other end of the house. That is because their house was built on a trail and spirits often cross through their house. They said if they don't leave a window open at both ends of the house so the spirits can pass through, they will hear noises and people walking around in the hallway, and they will wake up the next morning to everything in the living room thrown onto the floor (ie pictures, ornaments, etc that were on the entertainment centre, coffee table, and end tables)

My scientific brain says no, but I do think that Hamlet (or rather Mr Shakespeare) was probably onto something when he said "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

One of my Mum's friends worked in the old Fremantle Maritime Museum (which used to be an asylum in Settlement days). Some of the stories he told were downright freaky, but then he's also a very good storyteller wink.gif.

My Mum often dreams of people who are very close to her shortly after they have died. She finds those dreams very reassuring. I suspect that this is her subconscious way of coping with their death, rather than a "visitation", but either way it is very comforting for her so it can only be a good thing.

A bloke I used to work with had some fascinating stories about his family totem. Not your traditional ghost stories, but he had me believing!
