Boo's Mummy
I'm being induced on Sunday afternoon and will be 38 weeks and 6 days by my LMP. My doctor is going by my early scan date and that will make me 39 weeks and 3 days. With my first pregnancy my waters broke at 39 weeks at 3am and my labour was only 5 and half hours and drug free.

I would like to know if anyone been induced and had a short labour? I would also like to know if anyone has experienced both and which was better?

I am quite scared of having a much longer and painful labour because I am being induced and my first labour was quite easy.

I am crossing my fingers that I go into labour naturally before the induction.

DD1 was spontaneous and roughly 9 hrs, dd2 was induced and not quiet 4hrs she was induced with syntocin drip and labour came on quick and intense. i don't think either was better or worse for me just with dd1 i had more chance to build up to the contractions.
good luck for sunday.

WHy are you being induced, if you don't mind me asking?

My sister had a spontaneous labour first time round and wasinduced second time round (due to high blood pressure). She chose to have an epidural early on in the second labour and found things much much easier than her first labour.

They induced her in the evening and she was able to sleep that night, with some discomfort but nothing major. Things kicked into gear in the morning and the baby was born that morning, so it happened fairly quickly.

Hope that helps. From the way she speaks it was much easier than first time round.

Hi Boo's Mummy

Both my children were born by induction. With my son my waters broke and my body wouldn't contract. I got hooked up to the drip with him at 7.30am and then he was born at 6.45pm, it took a while for it to kick in but my pains etc had time to come on slowly.

With my daughter I was a week over due date and they broke my waters and hooked me up at 8.30am and they started off with a slow dose and told me each half hour they would increase me. Well by 11.45am she was here.

I found my second birth, while quicker, I went from laying there in no pain doing a puzzle to saying, to OMG I need to push. The pains were worse second time around, only cause of the intensity and quickness. Afterwards I was cold and shaky which they told me was the body in shock, but they got me up to have a shower and I felt great, not tired nothing, ready to start the day with my beautiful girl.

Either way I wish you luck, and hope the labour is as kind as it can be to you

Thanks for your replies.

Bondia - My doctor recommended it. When I saw her on Wednesday she was quite surprised that I hadn't gone into labour yet. It was a bit of a surprise to me (the induction suggestion). I guess it might have been recommended due to my concerns of going over 40 weeks and giving birth to a much larger baby.

Fair enough. I was just a bit surprised as it's not all that common here to unduce pre-term unless there are issues with the baby's or mothers health. But maybe I'm wrong!

Are you ok about the decision? That's the main thing, so long as you're comfortable with it. It just sounded a bit like you weren't sure.

I'm sure you'll be fine though!

Hi,

I have had one spontaneous labour with waters breaking (DS) and one induced at 38 weeks (DD). DS had an epidural with labour lasting about 9 hours in total. With DD gel was inserted, over night I dilated a cm or two where waters were broken next morning. Labour lasted 4.5 hours from waters breaking - no drugs that time (LOL not through choice). Both labours were about the same intensity although I felt more of DD's labour wink.gif.

Good luck original.gif

i was induced a wk early (he was going to be a big boy) and i had my waters broken at 8:30 and put on a drip which they increased every half hr, contractions didnt really start till around 11 and i had my boy at 6:17pm so about an 8hr labour, ive only had the one so i dont know what the difference would b but apparently it was a pretty short labour and i had an epi around 12 so i managed to rest until 4:30 when i was told to start pushing

Boo's mummy, i have only had the experience of being induced with my son (i had GD) and to be totally honest with this one i am going to do everything possible to avoid it again. The drip was the worst thing i have ever gone through though the contractions were immediate, with no break in between. I had wanted to give birth without pain relief, however after going in to hospital the tuesday afternoon and not being taking to delivery until the thursday morning (had contractions from wednesday 1am till the thursday morning, but was progressing and all the delivery rooms were full on the wednesday evening when they could have broken my waters/drip etc!! so i ended up with an epidural after 4 hours of solid contractions with no more dialation. This was my experience and i can only tell you what i felt! everyone is different and this time i am really hoping to avoid being induced (would have been ok if i didnt have the drip!!) i would question your doctors reasoning for wanting to induce you early for no apparent reason. and since you went spontaneously the first time i would think it more likely that you will go again this time. Good luck with what ever you decide to go with. original.gif
