my 6.5 week old DS seems to go cross eyed every now and then. Im not terribly concerned about it because most of the time his eyes are fine but I was just wondering if anybody else has noticed similar behaviour in their bubs and whether its normal etc..

Hi there

My 5.5wk baby does it too. I just read in Baby Love that is was normal and it hasn't bothered me since. It was interesting because even from day 1 she would open her right eye more readily than her left, and it is her left eye which has the weaker muscles. I have noticed that the number of times she goes cross eyed is decreasing over the past week, so I'm sure it will be one of those things we look back on and think "Oh, how cute!".

Enjoy your baby!
Cheers, Cass

Hi Lynny,

Yep, as the others have said, perfectly normal. I too read somewhere that its common for bubs eyes to cross up until they're 6-9 months. My DD went cross eyed off and on in the early weeks but that soon settled down so that by the time she was about 7-8 weeks, she wasn't doing that anymore.

Btw, specialists say that by 12 months, if bubs eyes still cross frequently, its a good idea to get them checked to rule out any serious problems as the earlier they're detected, the better it is for bub (obviously) lol original.gif Sorry, just realised how stupid that sounded! blush.gif

That pic is so cute!

The paed at the Hospital picked up this when our DD was born. She doesn't do at as often now (14wks) but every now and then they still goes a bit crossed.

They said it should correct itself by the time she is one years old and if it doesn't then to see an eye specialist original.gif

HTH.

Interesting!

I asked our paed about it at the 2 month check and he said that if she's still doing it at four months he'd give us a referral.

He said that if you don't intervene before nine months they start to lose depth perception.

We're seeing the paediatric opthamologist in a couple of weeks, so I'll get the REAL low down from a specialist and get back to you.
