Hi

dd2 is a little over 6 months and starting solids has just sooo hard at the moment. She is just sooo FUSSY!!!.
She has refused baby rice, and all tinned foods.

Is doing well on homemade apple but only eats 1 ice cube. This is generally all the solids she has. Tried Potato with peas, carrot and corn but she now refuses this. Will be making potato and pumpkin tomorrow to see how this goes.

Does any one have ANY ideas on what else can I feed her?
She did like the tinned custard but clinic sister told me not to.
By the way she is bottle fed but only has 3-4 bottles (180mls) and at last weigh was 5.2kg

Thanks to all.

Nev

Hi,
My DD is the same age as your little one. When she started on solids about 7 weeks ago, she refused the rice cereal too. I just perservered (sp?) with a little every day and mixed it up with water (not formula) & also added a little pureed fruit for taste. She eventually took it & now loves it!
Maybe you could make up a little custard using your bubs normal milk & try that. It may help her get used to the sensation of food while tasting ok.
My little one (or not so little 8.4kg boomer), is now enjoying 3 meals a day with no fussiness (except for refusing tinned food)

Good luck

Hi Nev,
We've been experiencing the same fussiness with our son (7months) Doesn't like tinned food much apart from sweet foods. Like the custards. We found that he likes to eat what we eat. Sometimes he likes chunky bits in his food. Try some rice very overcooked mixed in with the vegies. Seems to like to get his tongue into the texture of the food.

Our local deli. has organic baby pasta and baby biscuits. He loves the pasta mixed with avocado. or vegies. Try cous cous with a little grated cheese for a different taste.
Other ideas... mashed banana, slice up some pear and let her feed herself. Our boy loves finger foods. Always very messy, but he's happy.
Trial and error really Nev. Just keep trying.
Imagine if you could smell a bbq cooking and then end up with a plate of vegies. Wouldn't you prefer the bbq!

All the best.

Rice cereal is horribly bland - seriously looks and tastes like clag. Our baby didn't like it much either, even if I mixed a little breast milk in, so I switched pretty quickly to other cereals. He doesn't mind the six month Heinz baby muesli - this has skim milk powder in it so not so bland. With the other baby cereals, I mix a little mashed banana or pureed apple or pear in to give it some flavour. Then it goes down no probs.

Sweet Potato! Was DS's favourite for a long time! (as well as pumpkin)
