Hi,

My son turned 2 last November and I would really like to get started on proper toilet training. I tried to sit him on it after naps and meals just before he was 2 and that didnt work. I noticed the potty was bit small and his knees were up near his ears. So I bought a nice blue one that is more fitted to his bottom and he can poke his hand in it.

I tried to have a go late November but only got two wees into it and thats it. I thought maybe he wasnt ready even though he tells when he has done a poo or feels a wee, other signs etc.

I dont know maybe he isnt ready, but I would like to start and try to get him sitting on it or something. Just to get a few wees in the potty might help him 'click'.

So if anyone can give me some tips and all that I would really appreciate it. He is my only child and I wouldnt have a clue what Im doing and my partner is starting to ask and Im like "When he is ready I guess". I might have to wait till his 3 in November.

Thanks! original.gif

Definitely let your son do the leading...the more you let on to him that you really want him to use the potty, posibly the less he will want to use it...kids are great at stirring us up like that ;p
Seriously tho, I would just keep the potty out so he can see it, let him see you and your DH using the toilet (honestly I think this helps), and most important - don't stress original.gif My first DD was TT before she was 2, yet DS was over 3 before he was out of day nappies...that old mantra about all kids being different is never more true than with TT...
Good luck original.gif

Hi,

Thanks for the advice! I keep his potty in his room in the same spot all the time. Im going to try and get into a routine of putting him on the potty after his midday sleep every day. Also I will tell the nice ladies at daycare to put him on after his snooze also. Im not going to push him, but I think a small routine will help him become more interested. I actually got him to sit on it yesterday for a starter. So Im very happy!

My DP and I have decided to try for another kid so I hope he will be toilet trained when we have our baby ( whenever that happens) so yeah.
