Hi there

My DD is 2yrs 3mths and is very fond of her thumb. To go to sleep, and also when she is watching TV or other quiet time, or when she is feeling shy.

Does anyone know how I can try to wean her from this? or is it too early to be worrying about it?

My DD - 2 yrs 7mths is the same. I've decided not to worry about it for about another year and then I'll get some of the bitter nailpolish that will hopefully deter her.

My dentist has said thumb sucking isn't a problem until they get their second teeth through, so I think why deprive her of a comfort mechanism while she is still young.

My DS is the same age as your DD. We've tried the nail polish thing but if they want to do it they'll get over the taste (only took him 2 days) Ay ideas for us would be great aswell!

Cheers

No personal advice as a parent, as DS isn't a thumb sucker. However, I sucked my thumb until 4th grade blush.gif. I used to do it when I was reading. Just a comfort thing I guess. Anyway, only ever did it in private and I'm not sure that my parents knew I did it for that long. I have to admit that I had braces, but I'm not sure if it was related to the thumb sucking or not (my sister didn't suck her thumb and her bite was worse than mine ever was). I think it's a pretty hard habit to break.

Damn!
I thought I would pick up some answer for this same question. DS is 2yrs 5 months and also an avid sucker (always has been). I've been thinking about the bitter nail polish for a few weeks now but figure I'll have to paint every fingernail as he's simply swap which one he sucks.... I guess I'll wait another year then probably have #2 (TTC since june)so it will be waylayed again till all that sibling arrival stuff settles down, hmmm
Any ideas would be appreciated
