Himy son is just over 3 and is really interested in soccer. We kick the ball back and forth to each other and have little games, but was wondering what age any of you got your son in to soccer on weekends and what age they take?

Thanks
Cassie

Hi Cassie,
I think they have to be 5 to start, they play Rooball. Its great fun but a big commitment, one training night a week and then games on Saturday morning. Depending on your area you might have to travel around to play games, sometimes the younger ones have games at 8:30 in the morning. In larger areas they often play within their own club so all games are 'at home' so to speak. Its not as draining as some other activities though (little athletics and cricket spring to mind in terms of time commitment).
cheers,
Michele

I think you should check with your local soccer groups. I have heard of an under 5 group (does include 3/4 year olds) and it's just a bit of fun, getting ball skills. It may only be offered by some groups, depending on parent/coaching committments.

Ok cool thanks very much i will check it out.

Yeah it does sound like a big commitment but i rather him playing sport and making friends than sitting in front of the TV or playing computer games.

Thanks very much

My son is 2 years old and he plays Soccer, football and golf. He has been doing the footy thing since he could walk.. He can drop kick, run and kick, handball and dribbles the soccer ball with his feet. Its amazing but we have to wait until he is 5 before he can play in a team. My brother inlaws play alot of sport and this is where he gets it from.. Its great as he doesnt sit inside and watch tv, he alsways wants to play sport. The kids down the road age between 6-10 and they always ask if rhiley can come out and play.. he he he

GO SOCCER !!!
