Hello Ladies,

Just wanted some advice. DS is 2years and 7 months and I want to try some TT with him. I know people say to wait until they are ready and they will tell you they are ready.
DS went to the paed last week and was diagnosed as having the speech of a 22 month old and the development of a 2 year old. He has been undergoing speech therapy since just after his 2nd birthday and is now being referred for occupational therapy. This is also why I am wondering if he is ready, if his development is behind in most other things, will it be behind for TT as well?

Has been really hot here the last couple of days so have had him in undies, he gets upset when it runs down his legs and says "Oh no". I repeatedly ask him if he wants to go to the toilet or do wees and he says "No" but then 2 mintues later does a wee. Sometimes if I ask him if he wants to go to the toilet he goes and puts his toilet seat on the toilet and sit on it for about 10 seconds and wants to get off but doesn't do anything.

I have his potty out and about wherever is playing, trouble is he is quite a big boy and looks too big for it. He sits on it like a chair, puts his foot in it and turns it upside down (luckily with nothing inside it though). I am not sure he totally understands the potty concept but I know he understands what the toilet is.

He is also in daycare 2 days a week, do I tell them I am attempting TT at home and can they ask him during the day if he wants to go and take him to the toilet? I am hoping if he sees the other children going it might encourage him to go as well.

Sorry for rambling, any advice or suggestions ladies.

I haven't TT my DS yet, so can't give you any personal experience. However, my thought is probably that he's not ready. All of my experience leads me to believe that (a) boys take longer to TT and (B) they will do it when they are ready. I am desperate to TT DS as he gets very bad nappy rash, despite all y best efforts, but he's just not ready. He will sometimes wee on the potty, but usually only after doing a big wee in his nappy/undies (we have some funky padded undies so at least it doesn't go all over the floor). If your DS is a bit behind in speech and development then I think it will probably take longer to TT him. Just my thoughts though! original.gif

Good luck!
