I cant remember seeing this topic recently, sorry if its been covered.
Im just wondering how many boys sit to wee when toilet training? DS has been trained for about 4 months and he is now 2 yrs 8 months. A teacher made a remark at his kindy the other day and Im wondering if I should be starting to train him to wee standing up?
Every day I remember just how lucky I am ......
My DS will sit or stand.. one never knows what he will do till he gets to the toilet.
When TT'ing he sat as I was told that getting them to sit helps them with pooing (many boys have trouble pooing on the toilet)
He has slowly been standing on his own accord by watching his dad and his mates pee. I haven't seen any point in making him to stand as I think it is better just to let them do what they are comfortable with.

Weeing standing up is revolting, IMHO, and I've retrained my DP to sit to wee, and any sons I may have shall do the same.

DS was trained sitting down, so then he would sit to poo. He now stands, but sitting or standing does it really matter.
Just out of curiousity, Beth why don't you like men to stand to wee. I am the opposite. I taught DS to stand cause I don't like him touching the toilet, particularly public toilets. Way to many germs!!! This way we can go to the toilet and not touch anything!

It depends on the height of your toilet too!
My mums toilet is way lower than ours, I have no idea why!
So here, it's sit to wee, I prefer it to cleaning up the spills!
(actually I have no idea now he's older but it used to be)

Aidan sat to wee till he was 4.5 porbably closer to 4 adn 3/4 and then decided all of a sudden he wanted to stand. He went all though kinder and the start of preschool sitting before he wanted to change. Caleb did not start TT unti he was almost 3 but he started sitting and at about 3 and 2 months decided standing was for him, makes a bloody mess but he prefers it.

Sam was 4 in sept. and he's been tt'ed for ages. From memory in the beginning I sat him on the toilet to wee, just in case he needed a poo too. But I also remember teaching him to stand up to wee in the toilet. I used to roll up a peice of toilet paper into a ball and tell him to "aim" for that baby! Except for the very beginning he has always stood for wees, I honestly don't see a problem with it. I agree with the point about public loos, whatever floats your boat I say. However to me it seems natural for males to stand up and wee.

Noah has been toilet trained for almost 5 months now (he is now 2.4 yrs). He has always sat to wee, just because he is way too short to stand. But now he wants to stand so he stands on the step stool, as of two days ago. Very cute but sometimes he pushes his 'doodle' in a bit instead of directing the flow and it seems to end up anywhere but IN the toilet!
Oh the joys ;-)

Wwell i started my ds to sit for tt in the early days... didnt like it at all.. so i told him well try it this way standing and he been standing to do wees.. doenst make that myuch of a mess i just simply remind him to aim in the bowl...
so hes been standing evertime he goes to the loo..
Beth: im interested to why you think its yuck for a MAN and a boy to stand to do thier wees? I dont see it revolting at all IMHO. Its only natural for a boy/man to stand when doing wees. thats the way i see it and i feel thats it much more cleaner when their out and need to go to a public toilet.. for many reasons..
Id say what ever you son is comfortable with then do so.. what ever works best for him.. good luck

Here's one for ya!
Dylan will only wee standing up if he is at a urinal/trough..."weeing on the wall" he calls it - lovely expression....
At home or at other peoples house he'll sit to wee - I think mainly because the toilet is too high and he doesn't feel stable enough on a step or stool.

I trained Nicolas to wee sitting down initially (he was day trained at about 2.5 years). He decided himself that he wanted to stand when he was about 3 so no problems here.

The Big Man is mid-TT and sits to wee at home and at school.
The only time he stands to wee is if we are in the garden and "nature calls", even then he tends to squat a bit

Thanks girls, Im so glad that my DS is normal in wanting to sit to wee. I guess Ill wait for him to tell me otherwise. Im just wondering why his teacher made a comment when it seems so many little boys sit to wee.
Good luck everyone with the TT process!

We are at the start of TT and DS sits. He doesn't have much of a flow rate so it mainly goes straight down. When standing in the garden he has to take jocks/ pants off and legs wide apart. Even then the stream just sort of goes straight down.

ds1 has pretty much always stood up - well at least since he could 'reach' over the top of the toilet bowl.
ds2 though has "direction" issues. So he prefers to sit down. He probably sits to wee 80% of the time.

DS 2.7yo only sits down to wee but he is just learning. Im sure as time goes on he will stand (at least I hope so especially in public toilets. Im so over wiping the seat down with dettol wipes)

My son had a real aversion to standing up or even touching it and then one day grandma let him "water the plants" outside and since then it gradually became more and more popular. Now its the norm and thank god he has good aim. He is now 3 and 2 months and has been day TT since 2 and a half. I think its something that just comes gradually.
Skitty I was just wondering about the men sitting down too? I would much prefer DS standing up - we have less spills that way cause he often used to not get on the toilet seat or potty far enough!!!
