My baby has some problem in wrapping him up. Since he is one month old, we still used to wrap him up with blankets. However now he is getting stronger, he always pull out his hands from the wrap and messed up with the wrap. We nearly need to rewrap hiim for every hour when he is awake and try to stretch out his arm from the wrap. We try to wrap him with his arms out but he starts to cry and cant settle down. Then we wrap him with his arms inside then he get settle, but he starts to stretch out his arms again. That is a big headache for us. Any advice on what to do? I am afraid as he grows older he still rely on the wrap. We also tried not to wrap him up at all but he cried loudly. What to do???

I am 'wrapper'.....both my bubs have been nightmares to settle without it. DS is 8mo and still wrapped! Eeeek I know I need to wean but I just dont have the strength at the moment.

Anyway I have a 'super wrap' method but I have no idea how to describe in writing. You lay it out flat, put bub one third of the way down, get long bit, go over the left arm and under his back, out between body and right arm, round the arm and behind the back. So now you have 2 arms just wrapped. Then take the short bit, tight round the body. I then bring up the rest to one side and wrap around each side. It leaves the legs free (so the hip dislexia issue is not a problem). They cant get their arms out.

I tried a tight sleeping bag (a woombie and an ergo coccoon) and it didnt work. He would bring his arms to his mouth in the bag and suck them. So then it was all wet and sucked on! And he wouldnt settle.

Do you only wrap your baby for sleep? Is baby happy and settled when he is not tired?

Sometimes the child health nurse is a good person to show you techniques for wrapping.

OP, my DD loved to be wrapped, but would always work her arms out which was a nightmare. I discovered the Love Me baby wraps, which allowed her hands to be around her face, which she wanted, but still gave her the feeling of being wrapped. It was the BEST baby product I have ever found, and I just wished it had been on the market for the my other 2 children. They have a range of wraps, including ones where you can detach the 'wings' of the wrap if you want to start slowly unwrapping them.

May I know the size of your wrap and where can you buy it? In winter is still ok to get him wrapped, just wonder in summer how your bubs survive??

I used Swaddle Me baby wrap. Try it because my baby also liked to have her arms inside. I stopped when she was able to roll on her tummy. Oh, I bought it from Baby Bunting (VIC) & it's about $30.

Your problem was mine! Then we got an Ergo Cocoon from a friend and it's been brilliant since. The 0-3 month one is pretty small, but it wasnt quite tight enough, so we also swaddled over the top of the cocoon with a light muslin. Life saver! We just got the cheaper thin one (~$30, although you can find them cheaper online) and used blankets on top for warmth. Our bub is now in the next size up (3-12 months) and it's still working wonders.

We also tried the Swaddle Me Up, after heaps of people recommended it, but he hated it. Babies are unique, aren't they!

I love the comment ''babies are unique'......so true. My DS was hopeless in the Ergo Cocoon, luckily it was a handmedown so I didnt spend the money.

OP, my wrap is a Lil Fraser one which are stretchy cotton (so they can move as teh fabric is stretchy but it wont come apart) and is very big. Available in loads of baby shops.

Summer was fine, my bubs are 'cold babies' so no dramas! Just used a sheet over top, in winter he has about 3 rugs as well as the wrap.

5 mo DS is a wrapper. He doesn't like it but sleeps so much better. I made long wraps - I just bought some flanelette in 1.5 metre lengths, cut in half lengthways and hemmed the three cut sides. I find it much easier to wrap securely with more material.

ETA: I wrap over the top of an armless sleeping bag, and add an extra blanket for cold nights. If he still needs wrapping in summer I'll get some lighter material like muslin. I find DS got his arms out easier when wrapped in a stretchy material, which is why the flanelette is good.

I also have to re-wrap sometimes at night when he stirs, I find then holding his hands down in place, under the wrap, whilst I settle him to sleep works better at keeping him wrapped into sleep.

ETA 2: Oh yes, MummylHK, I found that too! Certain material suits, like toweling ones, seem to "catch" better on the wraps.

I find that when my bub is in cotton type outfits he gets his arms out very easily but when I have him in terry toweling type outfits, like bonds body suits, he struggles to get his arms out biggrin.gif
