Nms but certainly nothing wrong with it. You obviously love it, it isn't ridiculous, and the kid will own the name - not the other way around. Go for it!

Why do that to a child? Why pick a name you know is going to cause them trouble at school?

OP, your replies are coming across as rather defensive, if you love the name and are happy with it, just use it. You shouldn't need others opinions.
I personally don't like it, but it's not my child. |

Like what? If you raise a confident child, then they are less likely to be teased regardless of their name. There were plenty of kids with 'different' names when I went to school, and plenty of them were popular and well respected. "focus Ford, focus" "rubbish heap" "What does FORD stand for?" "Found on Road Dismantled" (Now that is not to bad, however the common insults normally start with a word that sounds like duck and ends in a word that sounds like stick) Not to mention all the one liner jokes about Fords. You can do your best to raise a confident child but I don't believe it is always about what you do as a parent, some people are just shy and kids can be cruel. (And I do like unique, and uncommon and unusual names) What I don't get is why you would post when your mind seems to be made up. |

I think Ford is a great name choice! I also think it goes well with Charles.

I think of Ford Prefect from Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy. Everyone saying this remember that Ford Prefect was a joke name this is a Ford Prefect Ford had 'skimped on his research' and had thought that the name 'Ford Prefect' would be "nicely inconspicuous." It is still very much a car name. OP if you like it use it. It is a nice name. It is also without a doubt, and obvious to all, the name of a make of car. If you are fine with that then go for it. |

QUOTE There are so many other names.....why....???? This is a silly comment to me - anyone could say that about any name they personally dislike. I dislike Annabella but I dont say why do people use it, there are so many other names. Obviously they use it because they prefer it to any other name I have met a boy called Ford, would be in high school now - I dont recall it being a huge problem. He had a twin brother called Ronald - so similar in terms of traditional name to OP's child Charles QUOTE Charles would wonder why he got the traditional name and Ford has a very untraditional one why should he wonder that - not everybody matches up names, I know many families where one child has an unusual name or a modern name and siblings have a more traditional one OP, its not my style of name but I dont think there is anything wrong with it -of course peopel will know it as a car name - but also as a quite common surname and a place in Scotland and a river crossing. |

Ford is not an untraditional name. Think of Ford Madox Ford and Ford Madox Brown. It's just uncommon enough for its cultural weighting to be noticeable.
