If the worst that can happen at school is Ford Falcon, then I don't see much of an issue. It Doesn't rhyme with anything offensive, and it sounds good with our last name.

Ford Falcon will be the best of it, there will be a lot worse I am afraid.

Like what? If you raise a confident child, then they are less likely to be teased regardless of their name. There were plenty of kids with 'different' names when I went to school, and plenty of them were popular and well respected.

Ignorance is not a point of view.

I think of Ford Prefect from Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

I think the child would have to have a strong sense of self to overcome the existing overlay of meanings the name already has for people in the broader community.

Ford Prefect was my first thought too. biggrin.gif

I actually don't think it is that bad, but then, I've been told on EB before that I am cruel and setting my children up for teasing based on my name likes.

I would just be careful in choosing a middle name that it didn't sound like a car make/model.

Too connected with Henry Ford. I like Henry, but Ford is a bridge too far, I could get past the car thing but he was such an awful person.

Thank you, the name just really resonates with me. I have a Charles which is a very traditional name, so I am not trying to be creative and controversial:).

The middle name would most likely be Patrick, after my Grandfather:).

It looks strange to people, because they associate it with the car. Posters who keep mentioning Ford Prefect, obviously have an actual person to associate the name with, and this gives them a different perspective. If there was a good looking male actor/singer with the first name Ford, then it would make the name more acceptable to people.......

There are lots of famous people with the last name Ford. I would be more likely to think of Harrison Ford.
I have read a lot about serial killer Ted Bundy, but I wouldn't suggest to a person that they not use the name Theodore, because I connect the name with a murderer.

People always have a story about any name you choose, and it is all relative to the individual.

Well said OP. I don't get the whole "noooooo, you can't possibly call your child that they will be teeeeased" hysteria on EB. As a PP pointed out, you could give your child the tamest, most common name in the world but they might still get teased.

Although Ford is NMS, If you like the name, i say go for it.

I too thought of Ford Prefect but I am not sure that is what children at school will think - I say don't use it!

I'm another Hitchhiker's fan, so Ford is not too weird for me. I actually don't mind it, I can think of many other names that get used all the time that are far worse.
