Ok, I have found a boys name that I absolutely love. I Know that there is a huge car manufacturer with this name, and I also know that Ford is a surname. Ford can also be a nature name, as in a river crossing. I would love everyone's opinion please........I think that Ford is a really strong name.
The main character in catcher in the Rye was Holden, so why can't I use Ford?!! Thanks for your help:)

I really don't like it and my opinion wouldn't change if there wasn't Ford cars.

Because The Catcher in the Rye was written in 1951 when far fewer people owned cars, let alone Holdens. Think about what the kid is likely to cop when he starts going to school being called Ford - would you want to saddle him with things like "Found on a Rubbish Dump"?

Don't particularly like the name but I went to school with two boys, both spelled Forde. I never heard any teasing or name calling, it was just their name and proabaly the 'e' on the end made it not so much about the car.

It's NMS personally but I don't think it's that bad. I quite like the aesthetic of Holden but could never do it because of the car connection. If you can stand being asked whether you're a V8 fan, then I wouldn't find it an issue.

I think honestly if you're the type of kid who is going to get teased then you will get teased and ifvyou're the type of kid who is going to be a bully then you eill be a bully - kids will always find something if they want to. Maybe to an extent you shouldn't give them ammo but I don't think Ford is teaseworthy in itself.

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
I think of Ford Prefect from Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

I think the child would have to have a strong sense of self to overcome the existing overlay of meanings the name already has for people in the broader community.

This and also it is in America where Holden is not the brand name.

I was kind of teasing about the whole Holden in Catcher in the Rye comment:). I can think of worse things to be teased about then having the same name as a car.

In the past I looked at the name Dakota, and it never appealed to me. Having met a boy named Dakota, the name now has a positive association to me, and is just his name:).

I have a Charles, and he had a boy calling him Chucky cheese, and chucky doll, so really, you can twist any name unfavourably.

I have read a few reviews on the name Ford, by people who have it is a name. Teasing wasn't much of a factor, and the car jokes were old but not offensive.

Ford is a surname that was used as a christian name, long before the car company was even in existence. If the worst that can happen at school is Ford Falcon, then I don't see much of an issue. It Doesn't rhyme with anything offensive, and it sounds good with our last name.
