DS at 2 yrs old as DD was on the way and we needed it for her. DD moved from cot to bed 28 months as we moved here from the UK and left her cot behind, then moved her into a big bed when we got here. no problems with either of them transitioning.

Most of them were around 3. They loved their cots and was in no hurry to have them wandering around at night. Once they could climb out we left the side down for them so they had less distance to fall (onto carpet)
We had 3 cots going at once in the early years |

My DS2 who is 22 months decided last week he wanted to sleep in his bed and has been there ever since. He has had a single bed set up next to his cot for nealy 8 mths now all made up and he had the occasional nap there but Friday I went to pop him in his cot for his day sleep and he asked to go in his Chuggqa Bed (Chuggington Doona cover lol) and he has slept there ever since.... DS1 was about 18 mths and DD was closer to 3

I only recently moved my son into a double bed, during the week of his third birthday (he chose his special 'digger truck' quilt cover as a birthday present). Prior to that he was in a toddler-sized cot, ie. one that can be converted to a toddler bed. We had no reason to move him to a bed earlier, and I'm glad we waited as long as we did as he has settled into his big bed really easily. I'm not one to force children into change before they are ready- preferring a to adopt a child-led motivation to most aspects of parenting- and thus far this approach has worked well for our family. We were the same as this. DS moved into his car bed that his poppa built on his 3rd birthday and it was such an easy transition. |

2.5 years for both of the kids - worked so well at this age and never had any issue transitioning to bed.

DD was 15 mths. Smoothest transition ever. Did it over 3 mths and it was really easy. DS is another story. I was trying to hold of as long as possible because I just don't think he will be mature enough for ages but the decision has been taken out of my hands. Today he started climbing out. He is 23 mths. Not really sure what I am going to do now....

DD - Before her 2nd birthday. She couldn't climb out but she made the move without problems and slept better. what we did was let her choose her own sheets and doona cover.
DS - is months and have no plans yet. Maybe when he is 2. |

DD moved to a big bed this week at 20 months.
Shed been climbing out of the cot so it was becoming a safety issue. Its been fine so far but shes a bit sick with gastro bug at the moment so shes waking in the early hours wanting duddles (her version of cuddle lol). So either I or DP just lay with her for a few minutes stroking her hair until she relaxes again and then walk out and that really helps. |
