UPDATE

So, last night I decided to try out the sippy cup for DS. I didn't have any expressed milk (as have never expressed before) so decided to use some formula (please don't shoot me).

It worked! He took the sippy cup had a few drinks and then "self settled" and went to sleep.

I only tried it for his first 2 awakenings, the first time he happily had a gulp and went to sleep after a couple of minutes, the second time he had a big drink and then was awake for about 15 minutes, but was just lying there happily and then he went to sleep.

I'm going to try it again tonight for each time he wakes but will try it out with some EBM (going to get pumping).

Wow, that's cool!
Because he is 9 months I'd just see the formula as another food, another type of solids, ie its not like you are introducing it to a baby who would be otherwise exclusively bfing.
Because you are not using a bottle you are not replacing a bf with another type of suck feed so this is good as it wont interfere with bfing.
Be aware that some bubs wont take ebm in a cup (or bottle) and want it from the source only so using formula or water may be the reality.
Maybe you could reduce the formula by diluting it with water (not right now though). Who knows, he may stop waking for it.
Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself, just happy that you are feeling a bit excited!

Thank you. And thank you for saying that about formula. I felt so guilty last night when I was trying it. I feel guilt over everything!

I still want to breastfeed him, but I'm hoping if he takes the sippy cup DH can take turns too. DS only woke about 4 times in the core hours (between 10 and 4) which is brilliant for him.

OP- If you search my post history and I've pretty been where you are... twice really because both my DD & DS have been terrible sleepers dry.gif

Crappy sleeper..waking hrly till midnight then 2 hrly after that.
Considered weaning due to feeding issues around 10 months/12 months.
Considered Controlled crying/comforting for sleep issues
Bleh...sleep deprivation can be absolute torture

You have my sympathies bbighug.gif

Despite all my ranting and raving I continued to BF & not do any sleep training.

DS is now 16 months and has been night weaned since about 10-11 months which means DP has been doing a lot of the co-sleeping( especially fri/sat nights) while I sleep in another room if I need to get some rest.

DS is very slowly improving ( touch wood hands.gif ) and we are still Bf'ing 1-2 times a day.

It will get better & getting your DH to do some of the night stuff is a great idea.It certainly saved my sanity .
Good Luck

I had miss night weaned by 11 months because waking up three plus times per night & working 4-5 days per week was killing me, but her sleeping got worse. So I'm back feeding her. She is 13 months old today.

Also don't feel guilty about formula! Miss wouldn't take EBM from anything, so it was our reality here too. We used karicare, didn't make her poo smell as bad as the other brands wink.gif
