well done noodle !!!

I had a function last night, no food served (boo) - I didn't realise. I left about 9.30pm, got some chicken nuggets on the way home, had a muesli bar & a cup of tea when I got home, fasting reading of 5.1 which is pretty good for me - go figure !! I thought I'd be off the charts because I hadn't eaten since lunch time.

I'm trying porridge tonight for supper for the first time..... 1/4 cup uncooked oats is one exchange according to my diet sheet.

It's my first few days on insulin, and I'm getting good numbers so far. I even got a great reading after Chinese takeaway tonight - after sticking to noodles, rather than rice.

I'm a little concerned about what being on insulin might mean for the birth. From my conversation with the midwife about it, it sounds as though I might be monitored more than normal. I want to be able to move around and to have the option of labouring in the shower or bath.

Liltuss - wow chicken nuggets! and a 5.1 impressive!

Anna - depends on how much insulin and your hospital/doctor. Mine reckons I will have to be on an insulin drip and if induced - constantly monitored. I'm not really happy with that but trying to stay positive about it.

I'm on 20 overnight and on 12 with dinner now - after starting slow and having a erratic 2 weeks at 33/34. My dr thinks this is sufficient to warrant the drip. He says about 20 is the limit. (This may change from dr to dr, i'm guessing) I'm trying to debate this with my endo on Monday.

I am also finding my levels balancing out now at 35/36 weeks. I'm tempted to shaft the dinner insulin and see what happens. I wasn't getting spikes with dinner but it was creeping up above 7 more consistently and the endo prescribed insulin.

Sigh! Not long now.

I am so confused. I was diagnosed with GD a few weeks ago but is it possible to be misdiagnosed?? I have basically only really cut out white bread out of my diet and my blood sugar levels are fine. I have even gone out for pizza a few nights with the levels still being under 7. I had my mother's birthday and had entree, main and cake and ice cream and thought for sure my levels would be through the roof and they went to 7.2 after all that food!! Obviously I am still going to manage my diet but was just curious why this is occurring. Even the dietician was shocked and didn't have an answer. I'm only 27 weeks. Could this be why?

Want to be a mum - the test has been known to have a lot of false positives and is almost impossible to replicate. Problematic either way as it can also not catch some ppl that actually do have it.

I guess keep an eye on it and see how you go. I know that as you get further along, it does get harder.

Hi everyone,

I finally got my results from the fasting GTT and they were fine! Massive shock but very pleased. Still going to stick to a diabetic diet though as i am feeling much better for it. Thank you for all your wonderful support and advice over the last week or so! Best of luck to you all with the rest of your pregnancies/birth.

Hi everyone,

figure it might be good to pop by and introduce myself as clearly I may be needing some advice and friendly support in the months to come. I am 31 weeks along and got diagnosed with GD. This is my second pregnant, first which was well hunky dory with nothing like this so it's been a bit of a "shock" if that makes sense.

I have so far seen the diabetic educator who was quite helpful, biggest thing she told me was that I don't eat enough I mean here I thought I must have been a piggy but guess not the right kind. Have to pretty much eat every 2 hours, sadly I have a timer to remind me, I do have a problem with regular eating.

Getting familiar with my “glucometer” and seeing the obstetric physician on Wednesday and sincerely hope that I can go to testing 3 days out of the week as opposed to every day as yes it’s 4 times a day but then the alternative to the bubs potentially developing or being affected by the GD well suffice to say I was walking this morning for the 30 minutes recommended at 5.45am. The educator is quiet confident that diet and exercise management will be sufficient for me.

I have to say that my levels read better when I eat what I think is way too much food then the other way which is a little confusing for me to process but I hope the doc can explain it to me.

Marti
