Help with eyelets, Paper Pinwheel pattern

I'm hoping to make this Heather Bailey pinwheel but I've never used eyelets before. Do I need a special punch or piece of equipment or can the eyelets be added by hand? I am reluctant to buy anything expensive to use only once!

Thanks Melbchick. The eyelets are in the middle, the brad goes through them. I saw a pack at spotlight but it had 200 in it so I was reluctant to buy it without knowin how to use them. I'm glad I can use a hammer. Are there two different types of eyelets or can I use a hammer on all of them?
