I went into hospital with a bleed last night and when they checked me they said my waters had broken, which I didn't know. I hadn't had a gbs swab at that stage so they took one but said the results will take 48 hours, by which stage I will likely have already had the baby.
The ob said that when the gbs status is unknown I will be treated as gbs negative. Seems to me ( a total layperson) that if status is unknown I should be treated as positive.
What if it turns out I do have it? How likely is it to harm baby? Can I request antibiotics anyway? (am home now, returning to hospital at 7am for induction)

I was GBS positive and declined the treatment for it. I opted to just watch DS for the warnign signs.
So maybe research a little what to be on the lookout for symptoms in your baby.

They will likely test your baby and culture that swab or blood test, and then act on that. My babies had 4 hourly obs and had to have ABs though they showed no signs.

With DS I gave birth at 33 weeks so before I had been tested for GBS and was treated as if I was positive and given antibiotics whilst in labour. With DS2 I gave birth at 35 weeks and had been tested the day before so they did not have the results yet. There was no time for antibiotics and they said they would just monitor as he would be in the SCN due to prematurity anyway.
