Hello.

I have been in this forum a bit over the past 6 months or so. I initally thought my DD 6 may have been on Autism Spectrum, and had her assesed in March for this, and came back with no dx, but a dx of severe anxiety and DAMP ( deficits in attention, motor, and perception ). I raised the possibility of maybe ADHD but the paed dismissed this due to her apparent non-hyperactiveness in class.
Even tho ADHD is in the family ( 2 sons ) she still dismissed it.

Anyhow, today i met with DD's new psyc and she actually raised the point that she is certain from the history that DD is in fact ADHD. While she cannot dx herself, and I do not want to continue on the paed merry go round ( no decent ones here anyway ), she has referred DD to see another psyc, in June, that has the expertise and ability to dx. While I know DD has severe anxiety, I also know that there is more to it. I havnt spent 2 years on the phone, running around organsing therapy, trying to find decent paeds etc for the fun of it. Im exhausted, Im stressed and over it!

Anyways, are there any mums here whose child has been given the run around constantly? Is this the normal thing now, to have to wait so long for answers? 2 years I have been looking, 2 years to find out what is going on and I see this lovely psyc today that is telling me she actually beleives in what I am saying and that there is definatley more to it.

And also, DD shows alot of ADHD flags at home, but in class isnt disruptive. However, she needs to get up out of her chair and go to the toilet constantly, and also day dreams a bit. I thought the toilet thing was anxiety but the psyc seems to think its more that this is her way of not having to focus, to not have to sit still all day, to get out some of her hyperactivness in class but in a way that wont get her into trouble IYKWIM.

Anyhoo, would love to chat and get advice from other mums who have been thru the very long, and very frustrating path of ADHD. Now that I look back on her history, she is so much like my eldest boy. he too had anxiety, along with a speech disorder, as does DD.

Im pretty sure from what I remember that a child doesnt have to be disruptive in class to have ADHD, there are also children who are quiet and un-engaged.

I dont have a child with this though (suspected with daughter though). I've spoken to some lovely ladies in the ADHD support thread in here, they would be able to give you more of an idea.

I don't have a child diagnosed with ADHD. But suspect DD2 (8.5yrs) has it. We have an appointment with a developmental paediatrician for the end of July.

I really hope we don't get the run around. I feel guilty enough for not realising there is something going on.

We have realised there is ADHD indications at home too after looking into it but at school she does the needing to go to the toilet a fair bit too. She also needs prompting to start or continue work. She will just sit there and therefore no finish work a lot. Also very easily distracted so they have to be careful who they sit next to her. Writing is pretty messy too. Homework is a battle as she freaks out over the homework grid even though its for over almost 2 weeks.

DD2 told me not long ago that sometimes she knows she knows the answer but it's just too hard to get it from her head onto the paper. Which then reminded me of when last years teacher told me that she is very good in class discussions but it doesn't really show on paper. Then times tables especially she just can't get and finds them too hard.

DD2 also told me that she never plays with 1 child or 1 group of children. She says she will start to play with one friend but change her mind. I knew she played with all different children but I didn't realise it was like that. After she told me how it was for her I took more notice of what she was doing at sport (while the seniors were playing). And yep, she went from one friend to another friend to another friend and to me and back again. one freind wanted her to play catch so they started then suddenly DD2 just ran off to another friend.

There is other things too but gosh I really hope we don't get the run around.
