Hi,
In term of decorating ideas, try a $2 shop or Spotlight fake cobwebs and spiders and Halloween type decorations.

For party food, perhaps you could set up an area that is a "spooky" lolly shop with jars of things such as gummy worms, jelly babies, snakes, cauldrons of squished toads (green cordial), bat's blood (red cordial), etc.

I love doing parties! Have a great time original.gif

I would use your helium and fill as many black balloons as you have/can afford and let them float to the ceiling for affect. Hang black lanterns with paper cut outs of spooky creatures on them.

I like Chellis idea of cobwebs/spiders - placed on the tables so you don't need as much. Halloween decs should be cheap at the moment.
I would cover the tables with black material, cheap at spotlight, then place the white cobwebs/black spiders on the centre of tables - or on food tables only to minimise cost.

A photo booth is popular too. You could make one with a string type clothesline and black material or cardboard. Have rubber snakes and spiders, black witch hat for props and a family member to take pics.

Your food ideas sound good. I would serve it within 1/2 hr of party starting.

Great links love it thank you. So many cool ideas. I love the fingers but I worry about the nuts (although i don't know of any specific allergies) been trying to think of something else to use for the finger nails.

There isn’t much in the local shops halloween wise yet unfortunately so we planned to head down to Melbourne to have a look but we were all sick last weekend and ít's not really doable during the week. So it looks like we will need to make do with what we can find. I have a had a bit of a look online and am still debating about a few things.(could pay express post)

Colour Scheme is Black/blue/silver as they are daughter’s favourite colours.

I will be taking some extra costume stuff/witches hats as I wrote costumes optional…
Dh, myself, and a friend of mine will be dressing up too and DD is going to wear a harry potter cloak (probably over a more sparkly wizard robe but oh well lol and her beautiful witches costume is being ignored lol. My aunt makes costumes for kids plays at her school and we inherit a few bits and pieces which is great) The two year old is going as a dragon.

I was desperate for a cauldron but mostly I could only find little ones for trick or treating and even they were all online. The biggest I could find was this and given I was thinking of a punch bowl I figured it was too small. Could still get it though.

Have a heap of streamers in black/grey.
Blue. Silver and black balloons
A few spiders things
A black cat
Some black silver spider web material
Some giant web things that go on the wall (looks a little like shoelaces lol)
I think I am going to make some ghosts tonight.
Lots and lots of stars I was reading harry potter and thinking of the stars in the Hogwarts ceiling. We can’t do the ceiling but we could do the walls and stuff.

We also own some dragons, a giant snake and a 3 headed dog lol so I’m going to take them and see if we can put them out without them looking silly.

For games so far we are thinking of :

Either traditional Pass the parcel to creepy music/or possibly pass the eyeball (you cook and shell and egg and then the kids pass it round until only one left.

Wrap the mummy (teams of 3 toilet paper round and round one of the members)

Apple bobbing

Looking at making some kind of pin the wart on the witch/pun the tail on the cat/pin the bone on the skeleton game.

Musical chairs?

Love the idea of the photo booth-will think about that.

There are also suggestions for a monster dance freeze game, a touch the creepy/gooey objects game and various other things that I have found.

We are considering a treasure hunt, even got some very dodgy rhyming clues lol that I put together earlier instead of doing my uni work, but I am struggling with the logistics of 20+ kids in a hall (no outdoor space). Would we give them clues and make it a scavenger hunt and they have to bring back the answers? Would they collect the next clue? Do it groups and if so of how many?

This afternoon if the little one ever wakes I plan to head off to get some things for creepy jars and stuff.

1:30 - 3:30 ... I personally would have fed my girls already. They are used to early lunch (our school is lunch at 11, afternoon recess at 1:30). So if I was doing the party, I'd do food in the second hour.

2hr party - you probably won't need a lot of games. Have some music on when the kids start arriving. have some loose balloons on the floor, and the extra hats/costumes etc, in a cleared area, so they can dance around and play with the dressups while people are still arriving.
Once everyone arrives, pass the parcel is nice easier one to get them into the party. Then the mummy wrapping one (8yr DD2 did this at party last weekend and LOVED it). Maybe a 3rd games depending on time.
Then food.

After a bit of eating, and cake, I would seriously just wait and see. If the kids are happy just playing and running amok, let them. But have a couple of game as back up just in case they are seeming restless or getting too rowdy.

Oh, good alternative to musical chairs is musical cushions. Easier to get hold of than chairs, and not as many injuries when a couple of kids try to get onto the same chair/cushion.

I saw a witch at my niece's birthday party recently. She was fantastic! She arrived with a second entertainer dressed as Harry Potter. All the kids actually believed it was Harry Potter! They did all sorts of games and related everything to Hogwarts, and Ron's smelly socks etc. I think it was quite reasonable too. $300 for both entertainers. And she said it was only $200 if she had just had one. The company is called Stardust Kids. I'm going to use them for my kids!
