hi,
could anyone tell me what the steps are to relaction after not nreastfeeding for 2-3wks and low supply from birth? my ds3 was bf and ff from birth as he wouldnt latch on long enough to build supply so i had to express until there was something there THEN he finally got interested! my supply dropped when i got home the kids had the flu then i got sick which then made me ff bub fulltime so hubby could take over. do you think its possible to relactate now after things settled down health wise and is it worth while considering i have 2 other active boys aged 3 and nearly 2 that id have to keep occupied while pumping and feeding? if ive still got a little milk will it be easy enough? my ds3 is also a hefty size 5.5kg as of last week he takes around 150ml at the most so far with each bottle. |

Hi Op,
I am not an expert but I do believe it is possible, I know my girlfriend did it successfully. I would call the ABA as a starting point, they are very helpful. I had low supply and took motillium, did lots of pumping, switch feeding and only supplemented after I had drained both breasts. We managed to breastfeed until my DD was 7 months which I was really proud of in the end. Good luck |

Yes, this is certainly achievable.
My story is different to yours, but I too had reasons to have to "re-lactate". My twins were born prem and it took 10 days for my milk to come in. They could not attach and were tube fed for the first 4 weeks of life. During this time, I expressed, but certainly did not have enough. Then, when they finally came home and BF'g started to get better as my supply kicked in, I had unexpected surgery (gall stones) and could not feed them for 5 days because of complications and the pain meds in hospital. I was too sick to try to express frequently and by the time I got home, again my supply had dropped off to only have enough for 1 feed (for 2 babies) per day. After contacting ABA, they suggested frequent expressing and motilium. I went to my GP and he prescribed motilium and with frequent expressing and the medication, I was back to having enough for 4 feeds in about 7 days. It was verd hard work, but worth it in saving money on formula and having to prepare bottles, etc |

Yes, it's definitely possible and worth the considerable effort. Get a prescription for Motilium from your GP and if you don't have a breast pump, consider renting one that can do both breasts at once to save you time.
