At risk of causing a lot of contortions with mirrors and torches, did anyone notice their cervix changing colour soon after they conceived?

I read in Bill Bryson's At Home that a doctor was struck off the medical register for commenting on this as an early pregnancy sign (his crime was looking) and realised that that was the reason I tested for my second pregnancy - my cervix looked purple-ish. I wasn't expecting to be pregnant and while the first test was negative I got a positive the next day (ended up in a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks). I have a cervical prolapse so it's pretty easy for me to check what colour my cervix is. The same thing happened with my 3rd pregnancy - I noticed the colour change a few days before I got a positive pregnancy test result - miscarried the next day unfortunately, but the colour change has been good for 2 out of 2 so far!

So... has anyone else heard or observed this?

How have you managed to see your own cervix?

They are usually very well hidden, hence the need to use the speculum for inspections like Pap smears.

Edit: Sorry OP, just re-read your post. Visual cervical examination is probably beyond the reach of most of the contestants at home.

ha I just saw this in recent topics and could not comment. biggrin.gif

My last pregnancy I had a pap smear 2 days before I tested positive and my GP commented that my cervix was purple which usually indicates pregnancy so she was right! Not to sure about how you can check it yourself but good luck!

This is what I was thinking!

My labia minora darkened, as did my whole down there region as I got older/had more pregnancies. Its not as pink and girly as it once was, sadly.

Thanks for the replies, good to know I wasn't hallucinating pregnancy symptoms.

As I said, I have a cervical prolapse so unfortunately it is easy for me to have a look. I'd never seen my cervix until after I had DS. Would be happy never to see it again too!

HillmanMinx, maybe you could think purple and powerful instead of not pink and girly wink.gif
