Hi there

I know this topic has been hashed out in various forms over the years, but (hopefully) I've got a new tangent for my enquiry!

We are on the hunt for a new washing machine, and due to our new laundry layout, will have to get a front loader.

What I've read online points to Miele and Asko being the brands at the top of the list for quality, and water/energy efficiency. But my problem, is that I have animals, and I regularly wash their bedding, towels etc and want to make sure any new machine I get isn't going to have issues with pet hair clogging etc... On average I do about 1 pet load a week, and I use microfibre velcro balls in the wash in an effort to control the hair but any machine I get will have to be able to cope.

So my question is, does anyone with pets (who does regular pet loads) have a Miele or Asko machine, and how does it cope with the hair? What are people's recommendations?

I use a top loader but you've got me interested in the Velcro balls!! Will have to look into that!

I hope someone can help you with the washing machine.

No real useful advice, but our Asko dishwasher is so insanely good and far, far, far better than the Miele one we had at our last house.

Personally I would go Miele if we purchased another one. I ha ve an Asko and yes its great but in the 3? years we have had it its been fixed twice, minor issues but still annoying.

Also now when it spins it sounds terrible so I think thats the next thing to go and yes its out of warranty!

At least out cheepie LG lasted the four years before it died with no issues at all, and costs 1/4 the price! lol

I do ALOT of washes, about 20 plus loads a week (5 messy boys and loads of sheets with blood noses etc) so yes it gets worked hardish, but should have lasted longer before issues.

Not sure about Miele or Asko washing machines but Asko dishwashers are awesome.

I have an Electrolux 8kg front loader and so far no issues...even with animal blankets/towels etc. I've only had it just over a year tho!

Try Choice.com.au and see what they recommend.

My old machine (has been old for awhile, lol) hasn't been dealing with the pet hair for some time and I got the velcro balls to tide me over on pet loads until the machine died and we got a new one. I assume that any new machine will deal with the hair better than my current machine, but I suppose my biggest worry is the filter systems and whether the hair (we have a cat, malamute and a pug = lots of hair) will cause clogging and need service call outs.

I've never used a front loader before, and the purchase is making me nervous! I don't want to waste my money on a lemon.

Allie_D, I the microfibre balls I got were a homecare magazine or similar purchase. Like I said, my washer is ancient, and the balls don't eradicate all hair, but they have made an improvement, and for the price, worth it.

Have you considered either setting up your old WM in the garage or using a laundromat for your pet bedding, to save the 'good' new machine?

We have been using an asko washing machine and condenser dryer since October 2011. I'm currently going through post-pregnancy hair loss, and we have two british short hairs. Although their coat is short, it is very dense. So far I'm really happy with the washing machine and haven't had a problem with clogging yet. It is gentle on the clothes and cleans them really well.

The dryer is a different matter. We've already had asko out to look at it and after using it again for only 2 days, there are already problems. It appears that the dryer is not coping with my hair loss or the cats fur.
