We have had 2 out of 4 transfers take. Sadly we MC'd both at 8 and 10 weeks, but my specialist said it really is a numbers game and we just have to keep trying until the right one happens.

Hi Zoe, My understanding is that the grading system of embryos is far from perfect & there seems to be no correlation between embryo grading & genetic normaliity,if that makes sense. Also, I think there's lots of other factors we don't yet know about which affect whether we get pregnant each cycle. I also believe that some clinics & labs are able to get better quality embryos through better cycle monitoring, & lab culture techniques. Also, we're not all in the same race. I think some people have very soft indications for IVF & would probably get pregnant anyway if they waited a little longer. They make the clinics success rates look fab whilst some of us feel like repeated failures. Hope I don't sound too cynical. For some of us getting pregnant really is like winning lotto. Good luck! *** PG mentioned. ** Agree with this. I transferred a fresh, 4 cell embryo on day 2, and got a baby. I transferred a thawed embryo, which was frozen at 4 cells. 18 hours after thaw it was grade 3, 6 cells with some fragmentation. I'm 10 weeks PG from that one. I don't think blast/day 3 or grading is necessarily helpful at all. I agree that there are many factors which influence a cycle, and how receptive the environment is. If you have unexplained infertility - well that's the big clue, isn't? It could be a minor problem which IVF by-passes and therefore you're basically as fertile as anyone, or it could be something serious and fundamental, in which case you could keep transferring and have no luck. I have unexplained. Did 5 x IUI with no hint of a BFP. Have done 35+ natural cycles with no hint of a BFP. Yet I'm 2/3 on IVF transfers. WTF? It's definitely not fair... but not just a numbers game. There's an element of luck of course, but there are all those other real, scientific facts which we just don't understand yet. It still feels like winning lotto when you hit the jackpot though. Better than lotto actually. I wish luck, strength, and happy outcomes of those on the journey. |

luck or otherwise to a great extent
in some cases the odds are better than others but there is never any guarantee with good odds and even with very poor odds statistically you can still have a positive outcome just depends if it is meant to be |

For many it's a numbers game if you know what the issue may be.
It's like trying to roll a six on a die. Sometimes you get it first go and sometimes you can roll it over and over and still not roll a six. I like to think of it that the chances are sooner or later you will roll a six. |

It's a bit like the lottery in Hunger Games. Some people have more tickets (chances) and some have less, but it's still a lottery.

Yes definitely a numbers game, there's just so many variables. The odds were against me falling pg with my fragmented embies first go, but it happened. Then you see the couples that have model perfect hatching blasts that don't eventuate to a bfp go after go. That's what makes IVF such a white knuckle ride.

Hi Pot of Luck I agree it's a number game. I also think if you're meant to have children you will and if your not it won't happen. Ciao Torquoise I think that's a terrible thing to say in a forum where IVF can be the only hope. What a stupid comment to make. __________ |

People should think before they post something so hurtful... I mean really???
I do think it is a numbers game mixed in with some luck.. I just wish I could predict when my number was coming up... |
