My friend is having a rather unusual craving while being pregnant, she finds a petrol soaked hankie comforting to smell? I had cravings like fish, cherries and strawberries which makes my cravings look and sound boring in comparison! I've often heard people say that cravings occur as you are missing something in your diet, but what purpose does petrol or even soil have? What cravings did or do you have?

I've heard that happens to some pregnant, I'm not sure if it comes under pica or not. Tell your friend to talk to her midwife or doctor about it.

I can kind of relate to the petrol smell cravings..With my first pregnancy I found the smell of rubber absolutely irresistible! You know that smell that you get from a hot water bottle or a new pair of shoes with rubbery soles! I could have sat there sniffing into an empty hot water bottle all day if I could! So far during this pregnancy I haven't had any cravings, but still early days original.gif
