just thought i'd update. So I have gone the sugar elimination way, and i am pretty sure I have lost at least half a kilo. But better than that, my tummy doesnt feel bloated and is looking somewhat flatter. Im still have little amounts of sugar, so teaspoon incoffe twice daily. Silly question but is honey considered as sugar. Does this need to be elinimated as well.

That's great that you've decided to quit sugar. The benefits are amazing. I feel so much better for it.

Anything containing fructose is what you need to avoid, so honey, agave syrup, dried fruit and fruit juice as well as any kind of sugar. If it's got more than 3% sugar in the nutritional panel and sugar is listed as an ingredient, it probably has too much sugar. (dairy and nuts have sugars but they're either lactose or naturally occuring fructose, so ok)

Most people go cold turkey and get used to no sweetness but if you need something to get you through, dextrose is a great substitute for sugar in tea/coffee as well as cooking. Rice malt syrup substitutes well for honey and golden syrup. My kids still have their "honey" sandwiches. A good natural sweetener is stevia. A nicer tasting variety of it is Natvia, available at the supermarket. original.gif

I've been doing crossfit for a couple months now and have lost 5kgs and have also gotten really toned. It's a killer of a work out, but if you enjoy exercising i think you'll love it. Not sure how old your little ones are, but i go to a mums and bubs class so i don't have to find a baby sitter.

check out www.mumsandbubshq.com under crossfit. There are also a range of other activities if crossfit seems a little too much to start with

Awesome. As a PP said, honey is sugar. Rice Malt Syrup (honey section), glucose syrup (cooking section) or dextrose powder (health stores and brewery sections) are your replacements if you're not into artifical sweeteners.

If a small spoon in your coffee is *all* the sugar you're having, I wouldn't stress too much, unless it's prompting you to eat more. Eventually you won't need it anyway.

Have to go against the grain here and say not eating sugar hasnt lost any weight at all for me. However it did give me less energy spikes and slumps so that in itself was worth it happy.gif

Also I certainly have lost weight through doing more exercise and keeping the same eating habits. Obviously you will lose more weight if you also alter your eating habits, but upping your exercise will indeed work. I exercise a lot though - like at least an hour a day, so perhaps the effect isnt noticeable in small amounts.
