I've just bought some fresh pieces of fish for dinner tonight and was thinking of cooking an extra piece to freeze up for a bit of variety in DS's meal portions...
Babies can have fish can't they? Is there any types of fish that should be avoided at 9.5 months? And does it freeze/reheat ok? |

I have given my boy prawns and fish from 6mths, I'm not sure if it's recommended but I am of the belief of not holding back. I have given him peanut butter, eggs and strawberries from that age too. The strawberries gave him a touch of eczema but dont now at 12 mths. I'm almost sure my MCHN told me to feed him tuna at that age. Just phone the MCHN health line and ask, thats what I have always done when I have questioned myself.
Ps, fish freezes fine. Pps, Savcol tuna in spring water has no added salt,it's the only brand I found that doesn't. This post has been edited by freddieness: 01/05/2012, 12:11 PM |

Yes they can have fish, just make sure it's an easily deboned one, and preferably a low mercury one too.

My DS had fish from around that age. So long as you are careful with bones it is a terrific first meat to serve babies as it is so soft and mashes up nicely with veges. Try salmon/ocean trout/tuna as well as white fish.

I've been giving DD fish for a few weeks now and she's 8.5 months. She absolutely loves it...goes mad for it. She's had barramundi and whiting. My boys also loved fish from that age.

Our pediatrician recommended adding fish and all other possible allergens in as early as possible. My boys are ten months corrected and have been eating fish for a few months - they are huge salmon fans! It's a shame really..... Means I have to share my salmon

I bought salmon so i'll see if he likes that, and I also bought some flake, which i believe is one of the high mercury fish, so i'll keep that one all for myself |

fish is fine. make sure all the bones are gone.
a lot of baby cookbooks have fish recipes. fish is a great first meat because it's so soft and easy to chew without teeth. |

Mine love it! I would often mix it with mashed potato to make a type of fish pie.

There are some kinds of fish you should avoid in babies as they are high in mercury - flake comes to mind. Maybe google it?
