I have a lovely Twitter friend who is currently enduring dreadful labour pains, although there are many articles out there it's sometimes nice to hear from those who know. I've had 3 children and can honestly say each pregnancy was different. I can't fully remember the first 2 but definately reme, ber the labour with the last and what worked really well for me was doing plenty of walking, I remember walking through all the halls in the hospital and would not stop until I was ready to have him! The other point I noticed was when I was getting early twinges I would sit down and they would pass, however this also paused the whole process so I persisted and leaned over the table and swayed from side to side. This eased the pain but kept the process going! What words of wisdom do you have?

Mum of girls
I preferred to be on all 4's, often with one leg out sideways to "open" my pelvis up. The best for me was on all 4's with a towel under each knee/hand and a pounding hot shower on my lower back.

I also liked being in a nice warm bath.

I have no words of wisdom - just remind her that soon it will all be over and she will have her baby in her arms. And fingers crossed it's goes fast for her.

Oh the poor thing!

The only position that was somewhat bearable for me was sitting in a chair. I tried lying on my side because I was tired and it caused the most excruciating pain ever. I think my shrieking scared the living daylights out of DH. He had to help me back up quick smart. Standing/walking was also a no go for me. When I had to move to pee/get to the car after my waters broke, I had to have DH hold me (and I actually got wheeled on a chair with wheels we had at home to get to and from the loo/to the front door).

I ended up giving birth kneeling up against the bed. There was no way I was getting on my back.

It is different for everyone depending on the position of their baby. I experience all of labour in the front, like massive stomach cramps. I find the best position for me is kneeling while leaning over something or on my hands and knees.

Every woman is different! I tried everything!!!

My favs were rocking on a fit ball, sitting on a birthing stool in the shower and I finally gave birth the old fashioned way, on my back!!! It was what the most comfortable, I had control. The midwife even commented that I should have used that position earlier!!! Once I was on my back everything fell into place!!

Just keep moving around, I think in the end that's the key. Find a position that works for you. Don't be led by what people think is the 'best' position etc, find what your comfortable with!

Good luck to your twitter friend!!!

Edited for weird double post!
