I know the risks with transferring two and wasn't saying we wanted it straight up.. I am happy to transfer just one but was just seeing what options were available.. I would definitely be more happy to have a single stress free pregnancy than a completely stressed multiple one.. Thank u for ur replies.. And best wishes to u all

QUOTE (gemgirl @ 01/05/2012, 08:30 PM) *
My Doctor is recommending 2 embryos are transferred for my 1st IVF. Been trying a long time, plus many IUIs. He said on the basis of age, plus time TTC. I'm not sure myself, everyone here says "don't do it!"

I'd been trying almost 2 years, plus 5 failed IUIs when I did our first cycle. I was 32. I only got 3 embryos (4 eggs) from my first cycle. My FS was worried I'd get even fewer on subsequent cycles, and was concerned about losing any in the freeze/thaw, so he recommended transferring 2.

We talked about it between EPU and transfer, and DH and I decided on 1. What did it for us was imagining us looking down at two tiny babies in ICU, and knowing our decision had contributed to the risk of them being unwell/fragile. A different FS did the transfer, and was really happy we'd decided on only one, and added a few stats about twins we hadn't known. 9 times the risk of cerebral palsy, 4 times the risk of marital breakdown etc etc.

**PG mentioned**
As it turned out, I got one baby from that cycle. And I'm PG with the second from that cycle.

So if we'd transferred two, I probably still would have got two babies, but all at once. By transferring them 1 at a time, I got them 2 years apart. Since I ended up with GD and a growth restricted baby first time around, and my placenta was a bit average, I'm eternally thankful it wasn't a twin pregnancy - maybe I would've got pregnant with two, but not got to bring two home?

Despite a long time trying, and failed IUI, you just never know how you'll respond to IVF before your first cycle. I'd definitely be doing a few cycles before transferring two, even if I was the other side of 35.

Edited to remove ticker.

Rather than looking into how many embryos a FS will transfer, maybe look into what day they transfer them. The stats for a 2/3 day embryo and a blast may be different clinic to clinic, and i personally think this is where you get a BFP from, rather than transferring multiples.

spotty.

We havent started yet so no we have no idea how my body will respond to it etc so i would never want to over do it straight up... But was just trying to fill up on as much info before we do get started.. All we hope for is a beautiful healthy little boy or girl to take home and call our own... So we would never push for a DET if it was not necessary or havent been trying for a long time..
