hi ladies
Since last night, around 10pm i have had a very tender spot on the right breast (right hand side , near the nipple. Extremely painful to touch. i suspect a blocked duct so i have been expressing in the warm shower, extra feeds, offering the right side first, changing feeding positions including on all fours with baby laying down underneath me (so gravity assists)..ummm and massaging. also, warm compresses before feed and cold compress after. It doesnt seem to be getting worse, pain wise, but there is now a large red spot there and is still tender. I dont have a temp.. im wondering if anyone has some advice on what to do to stop it progressing to mastitis? and when do i know if it is mastitis? will the pain get worse? always a temp? advice greatly appreciated!! thanks |

Poor thing, I just had a shiver remembering the pain of blucked ducts, excruciating.
You're doing all the right things. If in the morning you the red spot has grown or you develop a temp I'd go to the doctors. Let them know you suspect mastitis, usually gets you an appointment quicker. |
